Account Storage

3 months ago I did a major re-inventory. I put about 500 enhancers in one base, in alphabetical order. Since then I have made lots of characters. I build them, level them, strip them of stuff, half stripped, etc. Oh, further complicating? I have bought lots of "Tuned" enhancers, and those cannot be stored at any base. I am looking at having to spend another day or two (as in 12-24 hours of real tedious work) regathering everything for my next 3-6 months of builds. Especially with i24 coming up. What I would love? Have something in the game where I can store all my enhancers for my account. Tuned, Regular, all of it. My logic? I buy from NC Soft $15-$100 a month worth of stuff. Throw me a little storage space. Cause it is frustrating to try to figure if I have this stuff available or not. I spent 2 hours last night running through 15 characters looking for parts for my latest project.

We'd all love extra storage, but what we want we don't always get from the devs no matter how often we ask.

On a side note, base storage got an upgrade a while back so it now automatically displays everything in alphabetical order. You no longer have to pay attention to the order in which you add things.

You have storage space.

It's called an "alt".

It's ESPECIALLY useful if you have purchased all the storage enhancements.

Clicking on the linked image above will take you off the City of Heroes site. However, the guides will be linked back here.

Uhm with all due respect Hyper that isn't what is being asked. There's no argument that we can store tons of stuff using different characters.

The topic is about a form of storage that would be easier to use than our current system.

So I ask you would you object if the devs designed an gave/sold us a form of storage that allowed us to organise and keep our items without having to go thru time consuming effort of logging in and out, over and over thru tens or even hundreds of characters. Or being forced to keep and update a spreadsheet.

Something easier to use certainly wouldn't bother me.

Why are you doing it this way? Most people spread their inf around their alts and avoid mass storage.

I do it when I want to copy a character to Test/Beta because there are times when I want to explore the possibilities of a concept for new base design. That way I can plan out/design what I want in advance and refer back to it as I build the base on the live server.

Other than that I spread it out like everyone else.

Well base building is supposed to be hours of real tedious work but worth it .

It's fueled by the pure awesome of his personality.

That's also why he's so low to the ground. He doesn't have the Oomph to get any higher.

One of the virtues of gui customization in another game is how separate bags are all combined together into one using an add-on. It would be nifty if base customization allowed storage racks to be tagged as individual and "groups" so that you could take 5 racks and group them while leaving another 4 to be "individualized" in terms of access rights.

Before someone comes running in with the "standard code rant" post, I'm just saying it would be nice, but I also understand how delicate the entire base system code structure is.

I have enough cash/enhancers for about 3-6 high end builds up at any one time, depending on how I build them. I am constantly experimenting wih new builds to explore the game, and see if I like them better. So.... I have to keep shattering the high end builds I am done with for parts. I tend to not use all of one's parts for another, and those need to be stored. Due to the hotdog/bun problem in CoH. (Repecs do not equal enhancer storage) I cannot smoothly get everything done in one go. So, I have odds and ends everywhere. This requires cleaniup, or I search 2 hours for an enhancer I know I have, or have to buy another.

As was mentioned upthread, this can be offset by buying the enhancement increase from the market. With the amount you spend each month (see OP), I'd think you would have plenty of points to afford them.

Or are your respecs so drastic that you end up with more than 50 enhancements that are not re-slotted? I'm having a hard time imagining that.

The auto-alphabetizing of storage racks should make this easier. I'd love to see all storage items in a base linked (i.e., click one storage rack and see everything you have in all of them), but since bases have been pretty much declared an evolutionary dead end, I don't see that happenning until a completely new base-building system is installed.

I currently have 40 Enhancer storage (should be 50 in the next couple weeks) There are over 90 enhancers in a build. Yes, I strip them ALL. Expand your imagination. Racks do stack alphabetically, but only hold 100 enhancers, so you still have to move the darned things to the appropriate alphabetical section. I have (trying to guess here over 100 tuned enhancers), that can only be stored on a character., which can only be global e-mailed, which the e-mail can only hold 20 at a time, and you gotta wait 15 secs between each e-mail. Yes, it is a true pain, and I have to be motivated to spend a lot of time doing it once in awhile.

Yes, to answer your question, I shatter the build completely. I take everything, like a swarm of locusts came through. Because If I needed all those for my Dark/Dark Tank experiment (an example) chances are I will need all of them for my next Dark/Elec Tank build. Or whatever I am working on at the time. If I truly love a build, I tend to have it available with a blank 50 SO version to be rebuilt at a moments (er, 1/2 hours) notice. If I really didnt care for the experiment I not only strip the enhancers, I spend all the merits, email myself threads implode everything on the character, and delete the50. Only 48 slots on a server after all.

I understand that. I have found it much easeier to do with increased personal storage and /ah command. I can camp at a crafting bench and just /ah what I don't have. Also the devs don't want to touch the base software because it would "fall over" apparently.

Although if the devs were to offer an account wide mobile storage unit I would buy it.

Edit:See sig.

Well the devs don't have to tamper with the base code. They could always modify the Vault which is storage outside of bases. What bases have is merely an access point to the Vault, it's not an actual storage bin.
