Idea - Path Auras for Super Speed?

I can't recall having seen this suggested on the boards before (though it wouldn't surprise me if it was) but I had the idea in the thread title yesterday while thinking about Issue 24 and travel pool/power pool customization.

'Why not take it a step further and allow the Path Auras to be used as power customization for Super Speed?'

It'd allow that much more concept customization, let characters actually have a Path Aura and a regular Aura at the same time (at least, while Super Speed was running*) and well, just seems like something that would be pretty fitting given what the Path Auras are designed to do anyway.

Just my two cents on something that might be a neat addition.

I'd love for my spines/elec scrapper to be able to trail electricity behind her when she runs as well as have glowing electric eyes. Especially for heroes (and villains) who get their super speed from their powers, it would make perfect sense!

Do path auras work alongside Super Speed now (except for the flashing at your feet, of course)? The upcoming "minimal FX" Super Speed customization in the next issue might be just the ticket, at least for players who don't mind the path aura being on all the time.

I believe Path Auras work alongside Super Speed. I think what El D is recommending is to allow for them to be an alternate animation for Super Speed, freeing up the character to use a personal aura like the aforementioned Glowing Eyes (or other personal preference) at the same time. For instance I have a Plant/Thorn that might use Autumnal Path (on Super Speed) and the Leaves Aura.

Until D mentioned it, I hadn't even thought of the idea. It would be interesting to know if it is even possible, or just so problematic that it's prohibitive.

This! I like normal auras 'better' since them fit my chars better, Path Auras are nice but too limiting since they can't work with body auras.

I'm all for this as I'd love to have electricity trailing behind my /Elec blaster on top of having the body/eyes electricty aura.

The devs mentioned the "one aura" limitation for those who requested path auras+other auras. This seems a wonderful way around that...Though honestly, I would LOVE for the option to be given to sprint, hover, and fly as well, so that one doesn't have to just run fast to combine path auras with other auras.

I've always suggested that they make options for 1 path aura and 1 regular aura per stance. That way you can have one path/regular aura for just standing there and not in combat, one for while in combat, one while flying, one while flying and in combat, etc...if they do that I can't imagine it would be that much harder to flag moving with super-speed or super jump on vs not on and switch an aura set out for that.

I think part of the reason for the one-aura limitation though is because they aren't sure the servers can handle everyone with multiple full auras going at once. Putting auras as part of power-set customization doesn't address that, in fact completely ignores it. I think the best we could hope for is something like maybe a path aura and a regular aura, and then having various sets of those switch out based on a stance or some other flag.

The problem the devs have brought up isn't so much server space as costume attachments & categories. The devs have all but used up the spaces open to attach to characters models and their files...power customization gets around this as it determines the look of the effect that is already being generated, rather than needing to use a new costume model attachment or such.

Too many auras?

Like how I have a Prestige Sprint Aura + SuperSpeed feet Aura + Winged Boots Path Aura + Streak Path Aura? (Great super speeding contrail aura there!)

Changing the SuperSpeed aura (cause, that's what it is, and one that uses more GFX than many true auras) to a Path Aura could be done as an Alternate Animation in I24 if there were development time, which there isn't. Devs are on record that there will be no Alternate Animations for Pool Powers in I24.

So... maybe later.
