Necro/Time or Necro/Storm?

Been intrigued by the idea of 2 soul-extracted Lich pets, as suggested here on the boards. Summon Lich, /release, Soul Extract Lich, Burnout, repeat, summon Lich again.

How long do the Soul Extracted pets stick around (assuming they stay alive)?

Messing around in MIDS came up with these two builds, Necro/Time and Necro/Storm.

Storm build soft-caps S/L/E and probably is more offensive/dmg. Time build also soft-caps (only S/L/E, but damn close to the 58% icap with power boost) but also provides 20% defense buff to pets (Farsight & PB) on top of manuevers, weave, and the 2 pet def IOs -- so the pets will be close to softcap themselves, I assume.

Time build seems to have more for the MM to do (buff pets with Temp Selection, lay down Disruption Field, etc.)

Storm build seems pretty endo intensive.

Shrug. Any thoughts? I already have a great Thugs/Dark. Looking for something different. Demons annoy me because of their sounds and I can't seem to get the edit-sound-file thing to work.

try /macro hush petsayall <em drinkenriche> that should keep the boys busy drinking and not bellowing while in non-combat mode

Trust me. */storm MMs are VERY busy. It's also very satisfying in keeping the zombies in a mode of rotating the long range toxic, close melee cone toxic, and melee smashing/lethal damage attacks. There is a synergy to Necro/storm that is not readily apparent until the pairing matures to level 32 with fully powered pets.

Is BUSY good? Time appears to be fire and forget - buff def, and then let the pets do their thing.

For /Storm, is it worth sacrificing some def (no AOE heal etc.) for the extra damage dealing pets you get?

In either case, how long do the summoned Soul Extraction pets stay around? City of Data suggests 300secs but I can't find anyone to verify.

Go for time mate. It is one of the best and most fun to play secondaries in the entire game.

The development team and this community deserved better than this from NC Soft. Best wishes on your search.

Soul Extraction lasts for 5 minutes. Good thing about them is they stick around and continue fighting even if you die. They do not go down easily, even the tier 1 souls. All their attacks are ranged and tend to keep their distance.

The Burnout trick was fun at the start but got tired of going through the motions since it is such a long process. Do it on the fly. After a pet dies, Soul Extraction-Tornado-Burnout-Tornado-Soul Extraction. Chaos at it's finest assuming /Storm can have more than one Tornado at one time.

It is hard to go wrong with /Time. I would rate it in the top 3 secondaries for MMs in terms of survivability.

You can indeed have multiple twisties and the lightning storms.

So if you compare the two builds, the Storm build has more damage (Tornado, LS) and one good debuff (Freezing Rain) ... I hate hurricane and don't see the point of Snowstorm. It has steamy mist and a ****** heal in O2 boost. No AOE heal. Softcaps the MM to S/L/E.

The Time build gets an AOE heal (mending), a pet buff (selection, which probably can be kept on at least both grave knights), a slightly worse debuff (Slowed Response, slightly long recharge and only 22.5% -RES instead of FR's 30%) ... but it gets Chrono Shift (+heal, +endo) in AOE, softcaps the MM at incarnate levels to S/L/E and probably 30% to everything else, and probably adds 20% def to all pets (which should have at least 10% more def from the pet and MM IOs).

Any further thoughts on which is more worthwhile & fun?

Storm is a love/hate thing. It's definitely worthwhile if played properly. Of course if you don't enjoy Storm there are other great options, no need to torment yourself.

Hurricane is highly situational, but great in those situations.

You can herd mobs, carefully use it as a tohit debuffer, or when the team is in trouble you can go knockback crazy and singlehandedly save the day.

For a MM it's even better, because pets don't complain about KB.

If you're not taking much damage, Snowstorm is unnecessary. If you're in trouble, Snowstorm can greatly reduce incoming attacks, and/or allow you to trivially outrun anything. It's great for low levels, you get better survival tools later.

Fair enough. Any analysis on the builds above?

I thought zombies were pretty stupid and squishy- can Time keep them going?
I didn't know you could /release and then be able to use the Soul Extraction, I thought they had to die naturally. But its been a while since I played her, maybe that changed. I think some people consider SE a skippable power, but I think its fun. It fires from very long range, flies, and is just generally fun. I use him as a pulling sniper sometimes. He does oddly stay alive after you die, though its not likely he'll live long since he's not super durable. I wonder if its a bug they never bothered fixing.
