Okay, allow me to be more blunt with my response then.

That isn't the sort of (overutilized, uninspired, and uncreative by this point) gameplay I necessarily look for in this game and if I wanted that sort of experience, I have plenty of other games that go that route.

I do not consider the Magisterium trial to be well-scripted and compelling, but the things you were discussing would make it even more unenjoyable for me.

To my thinking there are two problems with a "Defeat Hamidon" iTrial:
1) Can Hamidon even be killed ? The primal one always comes back and from my understanding its recovery from defeat is part of the game lore (there is also that weird text in LGTF). Perhaps Hamidon is not just a giant blob but the common "mind" of Will of the Earth, not dependant on any one body ?
2) Even with Hamidon gone, Praetorian Earth is still covered in Devouring Earth, Tellurian plague, nuclear fallout and whatever creatures Hami created to populate its eden. Civilizing it would be an uphill battle, especially when most Primals (especially incarnates) will (have) to turn their full attention towards the Coming Storm.


I do not suffer from altitis, I enjoy every character of it.

Maybe he can be sealed away, much like Mot and Rularuu. Weakened in some way, then locked down so he can't do anything directly.

If I were playing a DBZ MMO that'd be great. But this isn't DBZ, and the entire trial just feels like it kind of happens, and that's it. You run in, beat up a couple guys, then Cole throws a tantrum and goes Super Cosmic. Compared to trials like the Underground or Keyes Island Reactor it just feels lacking.

And what sort of game mechanics would you use that are not (in your opinion) overutilized, uninspired and uncreative?
When you consider how long video games have been around, it becomes clear that it becomes harder and harder to come up with something that hasn't been done before, and yet still works.
Admittedly, a raid is a raid, and there are only so many different ways you can color it differently... Having a 'boss fight', which triggers another 'boss fight' which triggers the final 'big boss fight' might be considered 'uncreative and uninspired', but it works... And that's why it gets used, and not just in this game either...

Perhaps you could share with us what you think would make the trial more compelling then? How would you have made the final battle against what is arguably the toughest single enemy in the game (up to this point, yes, it can be argued that the Hamidon is tougher, but you know what I mean...) and his remaining lackies as they fight a desperate 'win or die' battle?
And while you are at it, take into consideration the current limits of the game itself, and how long it would take to possibly implement what you would like to see. (Because whether we all like it or not, game developers are always going to have to limit what they want to do by what the game itself and any deadlines that might be imposed upon them...)

Damage Patches that if the player is just past the center of the patch (or it's otherwise off screen) that renders the entire patch invisible but still able to destroy your character in under 5 seconds - and the damage ticks are all but invisible when compared to the red rocks on the ground.
