Does "Type" defense stack w/ "positional" Defense?

There probably is an obvious answer to this simple question, but my brain isn't fully functioning this morning.

An example of my question is this: Say I get 3% overall (positional) defense from manuevers from the leadership pool. Then I slot 4 kinectic combats in a melee power for 3.75% smashing/lethal defense.

Do I now have 6.75% (3 + 3.75) defense from smashing/lethal and 3% defense for everything else? Or just 3.75% to lethal and 3% to everything else?

I want to say I have the 6.75%, but would like confirmation on this please.

Thanks

Maneuvers is +Defense to everything, not just positional, so yes in this case it will stack with whatever typed defense you have.

But typed defense does not stack with positional, the game uses whatever's higher. So if you have 10% melee defense and 5% smashing defense, and get hit with a smashing melee attack, it will treat your defense as 10% in calculating whether or not the attack hits.

No type stacks with any other type**. The game tallies up the amount of each type of defense you have, and uses the highest one that applies to the incoming attack.

So the game at all times figures out how much smashing, lethal, fire, cold, energy, negative, psionic, melee, ranged, and AoE defense you have. And then you can use exactly one of those - the best one - for each attack that is fired at you.

The way defensive *powers* "stack" is that you have to figure out which types that power grants, and each one is handled separately.

** There is a "base" type of defense that almost no power grants, that is actually defense to everything. It is the exception: it stacks with all types. The most common occurrence of seeing base defense is actually in defense *debuffs* which reduce the amount of defense you have to all types.

Good news! Maneuvers provides defense to all vectors (type and positional), so yes, you have 6.75% smashing/lethal (3% to everything else).

But type/position do not stack; the game goes by whichever is higher. in this case, any attack that lists smashing or lethal will go up against the 6.75, but without smashing/lethal, the attack rolls against the 3% from maneuvers.

If you had 20 ranged defence, 10 melee, 5 AoE, and 3% against all types (except Smashing/lethal which is 6.75%) - you'd have;

20 def against a lethal/range
10 def against a smashing/melee
6.75 def against a Smashing/AoE
5 def against a energy/AoE
and against an oddball positionless Psi attack, you'd have 3 def.

EDIT: figured it would be sufficiently answered by the time I hit submit, but I had to confirm Maneuvers wasn't just positional defense. Was 95% sure, but the 5% usually bites me in the ***.

A while back the defense BUFFS were pretty much all changed to cover both positional and typed (either via the pairings, or simply being the so-called "ALL".

The only power I know of that adds to base defense is Personal Force Field, a.k.a. "nyah nyah, you can't hurt me".

Outside of armor sets and ancillary/patron pools, I think it was just temporary powers and pool powers, but that isn't much in the grand scheme of defense granting powers.
This is the main reason Energy Aura has been not as well received. It doesn't have much resistance, none to some types, and practically no defense to certain types and positions and not much else to solve the issue, until the more recent changes.

yeah, i meant Pool Powers, and things like Defender/Controller/Corrupter/MM shields. Basically anything you cast on someone else. That's why I said buffs.
