I would do this myself if I knew the first thing about programming...

Actually I think someone already has done one, and it is web based.
Wouldn't it be great if you could just run a program, open the log from the date(s) of your choice, and tell it not to show the channels you're not interested in?

Someone out there has a program that basically does that - gives you a "cleaned" copy of a chat log based on what channel you tell it you want to view.

I thank you, as well. I'd started to cobble together a nightmarish franken-macro to parse them, but this is much nicer!

I think you are referring to Tao's Log Cleaner. Not sure if it's still available or how it compares to the above mentioned web-based one.

You know what would be a fantastic thing? A filter for saved chat logs. I wish I knew how to make it because if I did, I would start on it right away - digging through thousands of lines of help chat, global channels, combat logs, sometimes even broadcasts to find one conversation in local is... doable, but unpleasant. Wouldn't it be great if you could just run a program, open the log from the date(s) of your choice, and tell it not to show the channels you're not interested in? Or even better, tell it to show messages sent between one time and another? Seeing as timestamps are all the same number of characters long, channels might be detectable by checking which characters appear that far into each line - emotes and combat log messages might be tough, seeing as neither is labeled with a channel, but it would still be much better than no filter at all.
Folks with programming knowhow - would this be difficult to do?
