10 Most Asinine 90's Comic Characters Who Never Caught On

the more I think about it, the more Adam X deserves the #1 spot on that list.

Setting blood on fire is a power so ridiculous not even the Legion of Superheroes would admit him....he'd be laughed out of the clubhouse by Ferro Lad & Bouncing Boy.

I still have the VHS tape I used to record that off TV. It's kind of my personal treasure.

Instant killing of people...has now become a terrible power?

Not that I'd have gone that route for a character mind you. But, it doesn't seem weak.

Oh, it didn't kill them. It just hurt a lot, and usually left them weak.

You do know the series is out on dvd right? I too kept my video tape until it was finally released.

not weak, just inflexible.

what's he gonna do, ever?
everybody already knows- OMG HE SET THEIR BLOOD ON FIRE!

doesn't give the writer much to work with...

Is the DVD complete? IIRC, the VHS release had scenes removed to time-edit it down to a usable length.
If that problem isn't present on the DVD version, I'll have to grab it up...though my old tape will probably still be my treasure.

Well, IIRC, he needed skin contact to do it. So basically, it only worked on people who were already about to bleed to death anyway. And it gave him hepatitis, too, presumably.

You have a point there. Deffinantly makes him less likely to be an A-lister.

i think that last bit was just wishful thinking.

Edit: Actually, couldn't that mean he would then be able to give people flaming electric hepatitis? That would make him almost/more interesting.

Dr. Todt's theme.

My nerdrage kicked in years ago when Spider-Man was appearing in some other comic. The cover stated "From the pages of Venom, The Amazing Spider-Man!". I soon stopped collecting Spider-Man comics after Carnage's debut and all the rest of the overexposed Venom stuff. It was the same with all things in the 90's, when they came across a concept that clicked with the fans they obviously thought "This guy is awesome, so let's make 10 of him and give them all four monthly titles with foil hologram covers!"

The stuff missing from the VHS release all appears to be there. One or two episodes have had a musical clip changed due to copyright but The Maxx was never about the music. It's not like it's WKRP.

One warning, it's on DVD-R medium, not standard DVDs. There just isn't enough demand for the series to warrant regular DVDs so Amazon burns it on demand. Still, it has audio commentaries, interviews and is only $16 so it's well worth it.

Holograms, foil, embossed....the 90s were a scary time in comics. This list is just the cherry on top.

Don't I know you???

I spent the 90's happily wallowing in indy publishing- Bone, Strangers in Paradise, Frank Miller's Dark Horse stuff (Sin City, Hard Boiled) etc etc.

I don't think I missed much with my impromptu boycott of the mainstream... =P
