Need advice: Worth it Staff fighting AT and powerset combo?

Reppu and I are pulling down pylon times of about 3.22 - 3.24 on Stalkers. That's about 315-317dps. With T3 Musc, T4 Reactive / Degenerative.
So it's actually OK performance on stalkers. Largely due to:
1) AS as a hard-hitting single target attack
2) Ability to maintain an attack chain that does not consume Perfection of Body for Single Targets (AS>SR>PS>MB), so you have constant damage buff
3) You get Build Up too

I am not sure about the haters. They exist in every game and tend to be more vocal than the majority who are not haters.
I enjoy my Staff/Willpower brute thoroughly. No, Staff is not a powerhouse set. But, the attack chain can put out a lot of damage and the quickness of the attack chain helps me maintain Fury very easily.

I absolutely love my Staff/NrG Scrap - imo a defense set is better in pve than resistance set.

At some point I realized I wasn't giving the AoEs enough targets and switched from x1 to x2, and things improved because Staff is using so much AoEs at low levels killing five doesn't take that much longer than killing three. Soul means I can keep all my toggles up simultaneously and still attack at full speed ("all" in this case is Focused Fighting, Focused Senses, Evasion, and Combat Jumping which is a lot of defense for the earlier half of the game).
The only bad news is if people are right about the set being subpar at the level cap Staff Fighting is going to propel me there faster than I've gotten there in a long time.

Staff is also a set I've been waiting for pretty much since I started playing. It has everything I pretty much want in a set. A really good looking t9 that does good damage, a range energy attack, a +def power bonus points because it's aoe and the stances are actually meaning full.
I rolled staff/energy scrapper and this is one of the few toons I've had that can solo x8 groups even con but still at level 25. Also I haven't had this good a time leveling a toon since I started playing, heck I can't even remember the last time I didn't power level my character but nope don't need to with staff it's that fun all the way threw for me so far currently 38.
My husband and I love our staff toons so far. His is a Staff/Ninjitsu stalker and mine is a Staff/WP scrapper. both have recently hit 33 and are pretty dang nice so far. I can solo almost X8 fairly easily.
No complaints from me.

Maybe the problem is /Ela as secondary because takes time to shine.
Will give it a second chance. Just got energize, and slotted some IOs, should be better from now.

Should I wait with SF/Ela brute?
Or another combo? Since its a defensive set, I though it would pair well with a more offensive secondary like /Ela... Maybe something even more offensive like /FA?
Please enlight me a bit... I want to play Staff fighting and its getting on my nerves.
