Permadom Margin Question
I have a question for all of you Perma-Dommers out there... How much recharge margin do you have to reliably keep Perma-Dom up?
I have 3 L40 Rchg IO's in Hasten for 97.37% recharge, and 78.8% global recharge in addition, which in theory (I think) gives me 14 seconds of margin to get Hasten fired again after it recharges. This sure seems like it should be enough, but I still have Dom drop on me sometimes. |

The trick with working that "window" is making sure you stay on top of Domination and Hasten.
I put Domination on auto and Hasten is right in the middle of all my powers so I can keep my eye on it. My builds tend to leave me in a similar situation as you have. At 200 million a pop for those purples (and higher) I tend to skip purples
14 seconds can go pretty quick and never underestimate critters that slow down your recharge.
As OneFrigidWitch points out you can build in bigger windows, those builds tend to be very expensive.
Once you get in a rhythm of the timing things flow pretty smoothly.

I only have a bit over 70% global rech on my permadom and domination hardly ever drops in the absence of slows... Domination is on auto-cast and I'm pretty good at hitting hasten whenever it's up, though.
When domination does drop, however, it's always because I was significantly slowed for longish periods of time or because I'm attacking something like a maniac and spend a few seconds animating attacks (if you queue them fast enough, apparently they sometimes can leave your auto-cast power waiting for a looong time) when I should be letting domination activate...

I don't have access to my spreadsheets for the weekend, but if I recall corectly 78% global recharge and 95% enhancement gives in average global recharge of 124%. Perma-dom requires 123% recharge. At that level, I find it's easy to get domination to chain 1-2 times. It will eventually end during a low-recharge period though.
Yeah, I believe you need to have above 90% global recharge (+Hasten) in order to keep domination up all the time. At around 75%, you should be able to keep dom up for 2 or 3 cycles, but it will drop shortly after that because hasten isn't up enough just yet. When you get to about 95%, you really shouldn't have any problem keeping it up. (Unless you get hit with -Recharge as DrGamma pointed out)
I like to have 125% recharge minimum before hasten, just so that I don't have to worry about juggling between domination/hasten, as you can't keep both on autofire. This way I can even go afk if need be, and not have to build domination again. Hasten at that point is gravy, but handy for getting the long recharge powers up faster, or buffering against -recharge attacks. With that much recharge, it also makes AoE mez more accessible on steamrolling teams.
This approach means that all your sets go toward +recharge, ignoring other possibilities like +defense or such, just picking up what other set bonuses come in incidentally. This isn't a bad thing, my dominator picked up an extra 20% damage with ease, and it's almost impossible to avoid gobs of +accuracy with those sets.
Oh, and protip; throw a minter's gift slow/-recharge resist IO in tp friend or another less used minor travel-set accepting power. This resistance to -recharge means when you hit debuffing foes, it's harder for you to lose your permanent domination stacks.
Thanks for all of the feedback. I originally looked at using very recharge-heavy build, but decided to go with a build that can Perma-Dom, with sufficient attention, as well as have soft-cap for Ranged Defense.
With more practice, I now find that I can keep Domination from dropping so long as I notice when Hasten drops, and then really keep an eye on when it recharges. The only times it drops are when I get distracted by looking at the map, or occasionally if I have been a bit slow on getting Hasten fired off, when a long animation delays the auto-fire of Domination.
As to the numbers, the formulas in Kronos' guide indicate that you need 67.74% global recharge if you have 3 Lvl 40 IO's in hasten (97.37%). My experience in trying to keep Domination up with 71% global recharge and my current 78.8% seems to bear this out - I was on the very ragged edge before and now have some more breathing room.
I wouldn't worry about margin.
Just make sure you have villain alignment and the frenzy power. Then you can pop it ASAP if you ever lose domination.
This is by far the easiest way to insure that you always have domination.
Recharge is 6 mins and surely you won't mess it up more frequently than that.

my Mind/Nrg Dom has 192% global recharge and can reliably stay at 2-3 times Dom for most of the day. only 2 purple sets btw and 1 superior ATio . i keep Domination on auto and have Hasten programmed in on my programmable keyboard to autofire. so once i have Dom up i can forget about it.
