You asked and they have returned!

From Monday, April 23 2012 to Friday, April 27 2012 Champion server will be hosting its own zany, wacky and occasionally eyebrow-raising version of the Olympics! From team events to solo trials and culiminating with a grand costume contest, both sides will be served and fun will be had by all!

Thanks go to CAPE, Champion notables including Cobalt Azurean, Amygdala, Cherry Cupcakes, Fanged_Knight but mostly YOU, the players for whom the event is designed! Now, without further ado...

Since every Olympics needs a broadcaster, we've graciously been awarded some airtime with The Switch radio ( http://www.theswitchradio.com/ ), all CoH players with several Champions there including Cherry Cupcakes, Sepultura, Dazz, Sinny, Braije...tune in and you might hear some colour commentary!
The Olympic Schedule!

CAPE has graciously donated 10 billion (10,000,000,000) inf to be distributed as follows to the prize pools:

Monday, April 23 2012.

-Your character must have none of the above badges when starting the event;
-You may NOT be recalled or Assmebled by a teammate or friend;
-Bear in mind while this is the Olympics, some Olympians might jerks and might try to impede you (pulling mobs, aggroing mobs, bumping you). We at Olmypics HQ disapprove of such behaviour, but we see it as possible. Forewarned is forearmed;
-The first character to arrive at the final checkpoint wins. In the event of a tie, an additional explore badge will be assigned to the tied players.

Since I have class on tuesdays at 6 and won't be able to make this, ill just mention the easy way to win this.

Complete the tf within 15 minutes all but 10-15 cimerorans on the last mission. Then spend the next 45 minutes spamming wakies in front of cim mobs, when you run out of your stack of 20 wakies, hosp and get more wakies. Complete the tf before the hour is up. Sounds suuuuuper fun. >.>

edit: if each person on a team of 8 can average 20 deaths/min for 45 minutes your team should get ~7200 deaths. Maybe halve that for travel time.

My racer is at the starting line (more or less). Only three weeks early, that's not too impatient, is it?

'I don't like the look of it at all,' said the King: 'however, it may kiss my hand if it likes.'
'I'd rather not,' the Cat remarked.
'Don't be impertinent,' said the King, 'and don't look at me like that!' He got behind Alice as he spoke.

I ran this course on a Tanker (blue)/Bubbler (red) and it took me about 8-10 minutes. You can avoid pretty much all the mobs in IP, the Council base marker is tricky because of the mobs and so is Guttersnipe.

Base porters to Skyway take you to Land of the Lost (complete other end from where you want to be), to IP near the hospital and Peregrine fairly close to the Portal Parter badge, just fyi...

This does sound like fun, especially the "die as many times as possible" part. Who wants to start getting a team together for that ITF?

Howdy folks.

I have to bring up a point about a certain event, namely the first two, the Death Badge Runs.

I have been looking at how you'd do it. And even without running them, it becomes VERY obvious that given certain placements of certain SG portal locations both blue and red side...

Unless you have access to the SG portals, you are going to lose. Badly. It will not even be close, *especially* red side. You can cut the time down by half, easily, as I see things on Vidiotmaps, being a Villain. Be like bringing a Yugo to a Top Fuel drag race if you didn't have the portals, it's that bad/good an advantage.

I therefore request that someone make a base on both sides, with all portals required for all zones needed and that ALL participants are required to become part of that SG for the event. And perhaps we are allowed a couple of minutes to familiarize ourselves with which portal is which in the base.

I know I'm not a rule maker, but really, I feel it's that important, given the huge disparity that will be seen between the haves and the have nots.

Unless I can make a base with portals on a solo level 4, or maybe someone will be kind enough to invite me to a supergroup with sufficient resources to have the portals available... on both sides... which is why I suggest the above. Parity for all, just route running.

I hope there is some discussion about this... even if it's thrown out as a non-problem. Thanks, all, for your time in this matter. I'm highly interested to see what happens on this. Imma give it a go on those races anyway.

Other than that, I wish good luck to ALL participants in ALL events. Should be a fun time all around, and thanks for putting it together!

I refuse. Why not disallow shortcuts instead?

One could also just team those without porters to volunteers/judges that do, and let them have access to them that way rather than make everyone go through the hassle of swapping tags around.

The only potential issue I see with this is that it'll auto SK the participant to the team leader's level, so if someone who volunteers their base is level 50 the racer will no longer be at level 4.

This isn't to say we couldn't work around this. Just something to consider.

I will attempt to do the test run with base portals next. I'll report results vs no portals, which I currently have.

I'm all for, by the way, disallowing the shortcuts via base portal, as it's the one item NOT EVERYONE can have.

Problem is, you'll have to have people watching the beacon locations, likely, to catch them.

I dunno how to solve it, I do like the suggestion of SKing, but the level thing might be too helpful...

Will report later.

Ok, it's later. And I can say I'm an unqualified MONSTER at this badge run thing. Truly.

I will NOT divulge my times. You can forget that noise... until after that is, as I will be running the badge run events. I hope to find an SG and a VG to run them with so I can use the base portals.

Blueside:
Optimized route without base portals: XX minutes, YY seconds.
Optimized route WITH base portals: Above time -30%

Redside:
Optimized route without base portals: WW minutes, VV seconds.
Optimized route WITH base portals: Above time -25%

You can make your own calcuations with your own minutes/seconds, but this is consistent, each run was done 3 times, as exactly the same as possible.

So indeed, anyone coming without base portals is GOING to lose. Because if only one person has them, that person is likely to plaster the rest. Fact. And I'm going to try to be that very person, although I'm sure there'll be others with portals.

One thing about this little bit of testing... I need to get Co* on an SSD. The load times are *killin* me...

---

Now, two more things regarding the badge runs...

1) External interference, in the form of speed buffs. Say, IR is blasted. Not real sure how y'all feel about it. Ambivalence at best here, it will be what it will be. There will be travel powers anyway, so... As stated above, interference in *blocking* your run can be made, and that's just too dang bad... hm. I wonder what can be spammed to slow you down...

2) The Next Big Thing badge is *almost automatic* for anyone who logs in the first time. You even breathe heavy and it will likely be awarded. It's just too close and easy to mistakenly get. I assume this is known, and won't be penalized in any way.

Just making sure on that. I'm sure it was unspoken, but... you know lawyers... and pedants. "Like me!" - The Joker.

---

And two final things...

This 'ticking' you speak of, in regards to the judge at each badge... So... how long will that take? What's involved with it? Do I have to wait, interact, do the ;dance6 emote? I'm in a hurry, don't'cha know, I ain't got time for hijinks...

And... it's not in any order, is it? I don't *have* to get them in the order listed, do I? If so... that's important. Very important.

---

Thanks again, I look forward to the clarifications, and to the event itself. Good luck to all!

Variables are fine, and sure, it happens... but the HUGENESS of disparity available... it's like bringing a Corolla 4 cylinder manual to an F1 race... it *will* lose. And so will non-portal racers.

IMO, of course. Perhaps I need to look at it further, but I really think I've gotten it figured out on this. We'll see.

And yes, of course I understood it to be there would be no revealing one's amazingness. I look forward to potentially winning, to be honest, at least one race if not outright sweeping the events, but conceed there is likely multiple ways to de-skin a feline animal. Or other animals. Or de-other-parts. But definitely multiples.

I'm *really* looking forward to the thing. Badly, almost obsessively even.

I rolled a level 4 Bubble Defender on Champion (villain) and a level 4 Electric Brute on Victory (no base access) and got them done in about 8-10 minutes, give or take a few rezzes for the Council base marker.

Blue:

The IP teleporter takes you south of the hospital and you still have to hoof it to the NW corner of the zone.
The Skyway teleporter takes you into Land of the Lost...get that Flight travel going quickly to avoid those purple Lost mobs.
The PI teleporter takes you a few feet from the Portal Parter marker. You still need to hoof it to Portal Court, not overly difficult with the right travels.

Redside:

The Grandville portal takes you inside Arbiter Daos' enclave. You can take the lifts to the Gutter from there.
The Sharkhead Isle portal takes you into Potter's Field, a good 400-500 yards from your badge marker.
The Cap au Diable portal takes you to dead center of Aeon City, still need to hoof it somewhat.

If Speed Boost is a concern, I will allow people to shut off external speed buffs at Null the Gull in Pocket D prior to showing up.

I will be on my namesake at the start line of each event and will be travelling to and fro to the badge locations to monitor things as well.
You *must* make physical contact with one of the judges. This can be an em slap, or just nudging them or whatnot but you can't just get the badge and scram.

There is one easy badge to get for each side (Patriot, Next Best Thing)
There is one moderate badge to get each side (Sweet Tooth, Purifier)
There is one "hard" badge to get each side (Unlucky, Unwelcome Guest)

I realize people will take shortcuts, that is why I implied as much about RWZ entrance, base portals and Pocket D and so on. It's fine. If the participants want a sg for the poters they can get themselves invited to their own SGs.

There *will* be other players there as well, so I do not expect it to be "smooth* for everyone, some people will impede others. I expect hospital trips.

That said, it's still a "for fun" event and the prizes aren't crazy enough for it to get too cutthroat (Micros are nice).

Good luck everyone.

Okay, that is a nice advantage. I know of two or three other exploration badges in PI that wouldn't mean instant death. Choosing one of those might even things out a bit.

Edit: It puts you a few feet from Crimson, over 500 yards from the badge. <.<

Clarity for me, just being very very sure about things:

They MUST be acquired in order. You MUST stay at the checkpoint whilst the person ticks you off the list. Acquiring the badges in ANY other order disqualifies you.

Did I get that right? Because this is *large indeed*. Changes everything.

Something in that magnatude, yes, on both, I did. There would simply have to be an investigation. Which I'd be more than happy to tell/show them by walking it through from the starts, both sides. Because I am *quick* through these now.

Unless everyone figured it out like I did, which is maybe likely... But if that ruling stands, all my routing has to be rethought, and we're all likely to use the same ideas/pathings.

I still like my chances though, but this should be *way* interesting to see how all of us plowing through the same paths, likely, will pan out. I expect a little roller derby type action now.

And am suitably preparing.

I'll monitor from here, but this is the last key for me, so I'll be on the side until the races in three Mondays. See y'all then!

August 31, 2012. A Day that will Live in Infamy. Or Information. Possibly Influence. Well, Inf, anyway. Thank you, Paragon Studios, for what you did, and the enjoyment and camaraderie you brought.
