Can Vigilante's/Rogue's Play the SSA?

Just checking, as I've never been in this situation before. Can Vigilante's/Rogue's play the SSA's, or do you need to be full Hero/Villain alignment to play through them? Does it matter if the character was previously one side or the other when they played through the previous arcs?

Thanks in advance!

Any alignment can play any SSA, but you'd need to be a "confirmed" hero or villain to be able to choose the alignment merit reward. Also if souvenirs are important to you each SSA has a different one for the respective red and blue sides.

Have fun.

You'll want to remain the same alignment through them likely.
I've seen one report in the technical issues and bugs forum where somebody had switched alignments back and forth while doing the arcs and had strange results.

I suppose somebody might have had some kind of trouble like that, but I've never seen it myself. I've had two characters do all 7 arcs on both sides (to get all 14 unique red and blue souvenirs for them) and never had any trouble completing any of them. When I did them I was constantly switching back and forth between red and blueside (mostly for badges) so I never did all of them one side then all of them the other.

There has been some trouble with buginess with some of the individual arcs and some people have been confused by what it takes to be a "confirmed" hero or villain to get the alignment merits, but I don't think there's any problem with doing the arcs in any order with respect to being a red or bluesider.

I was just saying their could be a bug with alignment changes and the SSA stuff because somebody reported one on the forums.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Appreciate the help!

From the ustream today, it sounds like the "strange results" that person reported (Manticore attacking them despite being a recently reformed hero) are intentional.

The game apparently remembers which SSAs you have actually played and changes the dialogue / events of SSA7 accordingly.

So I guess that means as long as you've ever played any of the redside versions of those arcs, regardless of your current alignment, the game is going to let Manticore attack you as if you're still a redsider.

I suppose that makes some sense from a "why would Manticore attack you?" point of view because even if you're a reformed hero now you still did nasty things as a redsider at some point. This fits with what happened to my characters - I had a rogue and a vigilante both be attacked by Manticore, but like I mentioned in my last post that vigilante had played through all the previous SSAs as a redsider at some point as well so I guess she was still marked as a "bad guy" in Manti's eyes despite her current alignment.

I know not everyone will, but I actually like that. So many things in CoH are relegated to metagaming these days, like switching sides just to get more badges, or selling your soul to Prometheus for more power, that it's a nice wake-up call from a narrative point of view. Some actions, like helping to kill Miss Liberty, are permanent, and no amount of metagaming can erase the fact that you did it.

Manticore always remembers, man, he remembers.

/patiently waits for characters with Hami-Os slotted to be corrupted by Hamidon, and ones leveled exclusively in AE to be rendered helpless when Dr. Aeon makes his move

I also prefer believability, immersion and open choices.
I'm also rather sick of the UI bloat and MUCH too many powers we have now. It's all a bit much for somebody who just wants to look cool while being super.

I'm not sure which arc we're talking about here, but there's one (#4 maybe?) where you must fight Manticore whether you are a hero or a villain.

I thought we were talking about the Manti encoutner in the latest arc (#7). Apparently whether or not you have to fight him there is based on what you did in the previous arcs. *shrugs*

Manticore is under the influence of the Dirge of Chaos in that arc. Manticore and everyone else besides the player, Sister Psyche and Aurora were being influenced by an outside source during that mission.

I thought he was just being a jerk. You sure his lawyers didn't just come up with that spin?
