Lesson learned!

If anyone remember that one time, i sold a super inspiration 2B inf (when they came out) and was all woot woot woot woot!!! about it!

Now i pay the price for bragging about it!!!!!!

A friend of mine warned me he was waiting for those converter to "act accordingly", but i was too dumb to react.

something like 4 days ago the glad armor procs where dropping low and i was thinking better move my false bids to somethign else!

But im a lazy *** and i havent!

this morning, I log on and see the disaster!, i bought 34 lvl50 Glad Armor proc for 1B each. Which mean i lost 34B inf!!!! ok maybe i could sell those for 300M and try to save a bit of this disaster, then maybe ill only lost about 20B. but for the moment ill just wait and see!

Im so dumb!

Heh. Otherwise sad story told with a good humor. Here's hoping some of that money made some new rich folks out there.

It's certainly interesting. I wonder how many bids were real. I did expect the prices to drop off pretty fast, because with prices typically at 2B for so long and then still 1.5B+ even as converters approached, I figured: someone bidding 1B must know filling that order is a real longshot. (Minus converters)

But I figured there were probably some people - some possibly not even playing, or playing actively any more - who may have saved a stash in bids.

The thing is, that's the wrong way to place the bid. What you should have done is bid on a 10 stack of defense IOs for 100M each, instead of 1B for 1. It takes up the same single market slot, but is a lot "safer".

Ducked a bullet there, though I can sympathise with the OP.

I was worried what might happen if high-end prices *really* tanked with Converter Fever,
so I moved all of my "storage bids" to L52/L53 stuff for the interim.

Once the feeding frenzy madness settles a bit, I'll revisit that.

Meanwhile, OP, I wouldn't get rid of those you bought too quickly - I'd at least
wait to see where things settle out to in a few weeks. You may be able to recoup
your costs if you're patient.

If nothing else, any of your toons that wanted those shinies can now have them.

it may not be that bad if you can wait and pace yourself to recoup. Stay on top of it. You may get a huge chunk back. In the mean time while all this hoopla is going on. There are still area to get into.


Some def sets. Some ranged dmg sets. some sets where you get into. I did very well today not on the pvp and purple markets. I bought some stuff that will for sure be worth a lot soon

are examples most will not burn merits or buy those and yet they are very much needced indeed

with everyone making lot of inf with converter, you can expect a lot of niches to be profitable.

Im not in the moob for marketing much, atm, tho, i try to convert, with the reg merits i have here and there is all, i rather spend my game time doing trials/tf's, these days.

Yes i lost a bunch, yes i can still save what left of it, but for the now, im just enjoying my CoX the old way

I was a bit stupid with converters too. Despite everything TopDoc, Arcanaville and the others said, my response was generally, "It's probably too late for me to get involved." In hindsight I still had plenty of time to buy up cheaper purple and pvp IOs and that would have been a good thing for me to do.

My second mistake was that, because I wasn't paying very close attention to how the things work (I don't even have beta installed), I stupidly placed a lot of lowball bids on purple recipes, instead of the crafted IOs. No real harm, and I was able to buy a few of the ones I wanted anyway after logging in yesterday, but just shows how I really hadn't thought things through at all.

My third mistake was I burned through a lot of merits last night trying to convert a couple of level 30 Numina heal/recharge IOs to the unique. I got one, but I wasted waaay too many merits on the project. It doesn't bother me because I have a couple of thousand merits sitting on vigilantes that had been there for 2-3 years, so I wasn't doing anything else with them. But if I'd played with converters on Test at all I'd have known better.

Now, the good news: I've never sold a purple drop, ever. I craft them and place them in my base. If I've learned anything in this game, ultra-rare purples generally only go up in price. Of course, my main focus is always slotting my characters, so what I mostly had was a nice supply of absolute amazements, soulbound allegiance, etc to play with. I had fun converting all of those into things I'd rather have.

I also had a few cheap pvp IOs lying about that I played with, and I was able to buy some more on the market for sub-100 million influence and play with those. I had fun, and I wound up with a bunch of Panaceas and Glad Armors. I gained five of the level 50 Glad Armor uniques, and also held onto a couple of full five-piece sets of Panacea and one Glad Armor resists. I already had three level 10 Glad Armor uniques in my base and I have a bunch of them on level 50 characters that I can swap out for level 50 versions. And I still have a lot of money so missing out on making even more money doesn't hurt me so much. Also, since I live on the West coast I pretty much had no chance to make the big money anyway. I was even late to the party to buy up anything at really low prices.

But I had fun last night anyway. I was able to fully purple my relatively new level 50 widow in a few hours instead of several weeks. ^_^ It's all good!

Ouch. Glad I've been super-paranoid with my inf storage and gone and reset all the bids downwards about three times since news of converters got out.
