I'm gonna do it - make a beast MM

Because of my affection for MMs, I'm going to buy Beast Mastery despite the early buzz. Similar to how I'm a big Marvel fan so I saw Ghost Rider 2 on opening weekend despite knowing it would suck.

I didn't read any of the beta testing threads, which will be taken down soon enough anyway. So I figured I'd ask on this forum.

Are any of the attacks noteworthy? I'd like to take at least 1 for flavor. Maybe 2, including the cone.

Sitting at level 2 right now, I can see the first pet has 9.05 def to m/a/r. Do all the pets have defense? Also 15.08% s/l/c resists.

Hmmm, when I just now used the "Attack" command, he seemed to think I said "sit", because that's exactly what he did. Then he attacked, the sequence just amused me.

Anyway, godspeed BM MMs. I've played all the other primaries to 50 and I've defended Ninjas, Mercs and Zombies by saying you can absolutely complete all the tasks the game throws at you with those henchmen, so I'm sure the same will be true for this. Right?

Global = Hedgefund (or some derivation thereof)

As far as I can tell, the Beasts have defense and resistances that are both serviceable. Definitely better than ninjas, but not as good as Demons.

I asked Reppu and she said Beast/Storm is a good combo, and after shuffling together a build I definitely agree. Though Storm and the MM personal attacks means I'm dropping a LOT of stuff.

My chain (as I see it) is:

Gale->Snow Storm->Freezing Rain->Call Ravens->Lightning Storm->Pets-Eat-Their-Face

Beast Mastery and Dark Control, I've noticed, are the first two real sets in which the pets seem to have inhereted a decent amount of inherent defense and/or resistance to a lot of damage.
For instance, the Umbra Beast has a minimum 15% resistance to just about everything and has incredibly high mezz protection.
Based on the numbers you quoted, Beast Mastery seems to be following in that path of better natural defenses.

I think it is safe to conclude that there is someone among the development team who has finally realized that Controllers and Masterminds do rely a lot on their pets. So the result of this realization is newer powersets having better pets.

I would, now, like to see them go back and address the other pets (particularly Mastermind henchmen) and give them at least a modest increase to their inherent defenses.

IIRC the earth control pet and the gravity control pet both have very high mez protection as well as very high resistances to most all dmg types (the earth control pet is actually a very very good tank with the right buffs)

I just wanted to recommend this thread about the subject of BM secondaries. A number of these threads have popped up, and I enjoyed reading through some good replies in that particular one.

I'm still completely undecided, myself, hehe (concept always rules it for me though).

Yeah, I'd agree. If you check the I22 patch notes they also buffed and fixed some older pets. Jack Frost got fixed, Fly Trap got som buffs (Big regen buff) and I think.. Gremlins? Can't recall off hand.

Yeah, its nice pets have gotten some more love, though it seems like general consensus BM is kind of lacking. Its definitely not a top tier good set, but I don't know where it really falls when compared to other sets. It could use some fixes. I enjoy it, but am feeling like its a bit lackluster so far in both pet survivability and damage, but not Ninja bad levels.

I do think all the controller pets needed it, since only a couple of them were actually useful.
