how does dark control play?

ok now that i'm sure a lot of people have dark/ toons, i'm wondering how you feel the set plays? for instance. fire/ typically goes flash fire> immob> attack. earth> stalagmites> immob/attack. plant/ SoC> roots> attack.

so with fearsome stare allowing to attack if attacked, what opening do you guys find works the best? FS> jump in... HoD> jump out... cone immob> and so on...?

what's the most common, effective, opener for a dark/ toon?

yeah but those are single targets. i'm use to playing +4/x8 on my earth/earth/ice dom. that's why i'm wondering what a dark/ can do with big mobs. for teams as well as me soloing.

Basically start with fearsome stare then living shadows then run in and heart of darkness and start attacking ... use engulfing darkness whenever it is up.

If there is a boss feel free to confuse him before you throw the fearsome stare and cast haunt as you see fit ...

I need to figure this out too... so adding my comment to keep track of the thread.

Make a man a fire and keep him warm for the day, SET a man on fire and keep him warm for the rest of his life.
Incarnates: K'lir(Fire/Dark Corr):Hot-House Flower(Plant/Fire Dom):Kinrad X(Kin/Rad Def):Itsy-Bitsy Spider(Crab):Two Ton Tony(Mace/WP Broot):Teeny Weeny Widow(Fortunata/Widow) : Zeroth Law (Ice/Fire Tank)

so you're relying on the -to hit then to avoid to alpha?

I have fearsome stare fully enhanced for -Tohit and recharge, Combat Jumping and ranged softcap with perma hasten so your milage may vary:

Find group, If Shadow Field is available, cast shadow field (unbreakable constraint and Lockdown proc), kill group.

If shadow Field is not available, Fearsome stare (Clouded senses, i don't care about the duration) while jumping forward as land in near the spawn, then Heart of Darkness (Absolute Amazement), killl the group.

I usually pick the best AoE damage mob in the spawn and confuse it as well.

I am dropping haunt as it does not mesh with my playstyle, and I DO NOT care for soloing pylons AVs as fast as possible.

Dark Control is not in the same league as plant, but I consdier it the second best control set, hands down.

I'm playing Dark/Fire almost the same way I played Fire/Dark on my Corrupter.

Fearsome Stare then run in and Heart of Darkness or (once you get it) SHadow Field. Confuse the Boss if you want, or throw the Shades on him.

Focus your IO's and Pool Powers on Melee or Ranged Defense for this to work well. Then position yourself accordingly.

Personally, I'm not finding Dark/Fire on a Dom to be as powerful as Fire/Dark on a Corrupter. Granted, there are differences in the powersets, but I'm really missing Tar Patch and Fluffy.

But once you get Epics, grab Fire and you can do this:

Fearsome > run in and drop Heart of Darkness (or throw out Shadow Field from range) > Back out and drop Rain of Fire then throw out Living Shadows to hold them in your ROF patch, along with ST holds and debuffs as you want. Works pretty well that way post 45. And soloing AV's is pretty easy with Haunt.

Test_Rat: I've struggled a little getting Ranged softcap. Are you getting a true softcap or effective softcap thanks to the -TOHIT of other powers from Dark?

There is a reason why people have always raved about Dark Miasma's Fearsome Stare....its just that great.

True Softcap. I have Psionic assault though.

I would post the build but Its a custom database.

Yes, I use fearsome stare for alpha. I have my 6 slotted ATO in it and I love it. I use FS probably more than anything else and the fear enhancements kinda suck imo. I do not care about slotting for -hit because I am dark/dark/soul and everything I do is -hit anyway.

Slot cloud senses in fear instead of the ATO, and move the ATO to something else, like the immob, which generally has crap for enhs. This gets you boost to -tohit, ranged def, and recharge, instead of just ranged def and rech.

Well, that is a far different question than asked.

Still recommend a start with [Possess], regardless, as no aggro generated.

yeah you're right. i thought about that after. i guess i wouldn't think to confuse a boss first since i typically don't have to with my other toons. unless they're EB's or something.
