Stone Armor is the most survivable, but I see you have two of those already. Invulnerability is IMO the second most survivable, and it doesn't carry the major handicaps of Granite.

All armor sets can give each other a run for their money, but it depends on the situation and most importantly the player. Dark has less survivability tools than an Inv, but it gets a damage aura to make up for it.

Ok, here I have to hesitantly disagree. Give me your best Claws/Invuln (minus purples and PvP IOs) build and I'll compare its survivability to my Claws/Dark (Same build restrictions).

Punctuation and grammar is one of the best sets. They make you immune to useless responses like this.

Well, at least you know it was pointless... and to be honest not very funny

I'd advise not to go that route. In my experience, arguing set survivability always ends up in "My playstyle doesn't need x, it needs y, therefore y is superior". If you honestly believe DA has superior overall survivability than Invuln, then congrats, you're playing an overpowered powerset that should be nerfed as Invulnerability has no damage aura.

How about we list the survivability pros and cons and leave it at that?

Dark Armor:

Pros
+ Great self healing
+ Great exotic protection
+ Endurance Drain resistance
+ Great self rez/stun

Cons
- No DDR
- No +HP
- No buffer defense powers
- Endurance heavy
- Self healing isn't as good against a single target
- Weakness to Energy

Invulnerability:

Pros
+ Great +HP
+ Great S/L resistance
+ DDR
+ Buffer defense

Cons
- Weak Exotic protection
- Weakness to endurance drains
- Weak self healing (small note here, spiritual+rebirth pretty much solves this)

And that still doesn't even scratch the surface. Perhaps it would be more accurate to list all end-game encounters in the game and grade the armors according to potential performance?

For example:

BAF trial focuses on S/L/E damage, so invuln gets an A while DA gets a B

MoM trial focuses on psychic damage, so Invuln gets an F while DA gets an A+

ITF focuses on S/L damage and defense debuffs, so Invuln gets an A+ while DA gets a C

STF focuses on S/L/E damage, defense debuffs, and endurance drains, so Invuln gets a B+ while DA gets a C-

Wouldn't that only be useful if you came up with some horribly contrived situation?

I'm not a math guru so please take with grain of salt. But it seems to me that surviving Timmy the smashing/lethal pc with a very predictable dps cycle that has no debuffs is pretty easy for any armor.

Now imagine Timmy is great at recharge debuff. My fire/fire tank jumped in a spawn of council a few nights ago to end up with -500% recharge. He didn't do so well. Usually s/l mobs are easy for him though. I'm sure ice could have managed that just fine though. I'm betting dark armor would feel more like my fire tank and invul more like the ice tank in that scenario.

Also being balanced around a heal/lower resists/control means dark runs a greater risk of being burst down, but average dps seems to ignore this...I think.

Now just so you don't think I'm totally biased here, I'm pretty sure results for ssa 4 would be drastically different from the two and dark would look super.

Last point, keep in mind that primary and secondary mesh to different degress as well, ie in my mind shockwave provides a bigger boost for dark whereas if he was dark/invul, or staff/invul or the like it would look different.

Anyway, me....as a stupid math person, would hesitantly argue that there are too many variables in actual gameplay for such numbers to mean much.

Build a Energy Aura Brute. With the changes to the set it has become one of my favorites.

Heya Dechs,

Disclaimers: I have never played Invul, and I *LOVE* dark armor. That being said, this build took me 5 minutes to slap together and could easily run +4/x8 against anything not psionic.

Thanks for humoring me.

Your build is superior in survival to my brute as long as you are in a position to use Aid Self. If you can't reliably use Aid Self, then you still have the edge in S/L environment, but my build starts to look better everywhere else.

In my defense, all my attacks are slotted better than yours. Further, had I focused more and softcapped to S/L, I actually come to within 10% of your sustainable DPS when you can use Aid Self.

I just wanted to see it because I had a hard time believing it, and again, I appreciate you taking the time to humor me here.

My point has always been that Dark Armor really thrives within the invention system. It's easy to add defense to a build that already comes with good resists and an excellent heal. You can't add resist or much in the way of healing with IOs.

If we take this to tanks, you see Dark Armor's survivability increase even more.

I'm very happy with my tw/DA brute...even with his current sub optimal build. I can't seem to get any feedback on my newest build

That being said energy looks good in mids and may be my next project.

Over the several years I've been playing, I learned that a person's playstyle and ability to adapt play a much larger role than what set is more superior. There are so many extra tools at our disposal, that the power set really has taken a back seat. I've watched Invul work just fine against psi enemies, and watched an energy aura brute tank LR on a STF without any issues.

So, I think the question of what is superior is definitely not answered with a simple black and white response.

Don't I know you???
