Basically this is "Tower of Babel" but they swapped out Ra's al Ghul for Vandal Savage and a couple substitutions and a "destroy the world" plot.

Hm now why did they make such a change? What's wrong with using Rha's?

Probably because of the "destroy the world" subplot.
Sure, Ra's wants to pull down civilization, but he's not going to try to physically destroy half the planet to do it. Nor would he likely have the capital to finance such a venture even if he did.

***POSSIBLE SPOILERS***

I loved the original Tower of Babel storyline. The idea that Bats kept such thorough information on all the League members and how to take them down is so in character for him.

I can see why they went with Hal Jordan vs. Kyle Raynor, as they really want to promote Hal Jordan as Green Lantern, with the recent movie and possible JL movie. However, I had to puzzle out why they included Cyborg, who only recently became part of the League in the new 52. They left out Plastic Man and Aquaman; yes, they are both unpopular, but they both had memorable ways that they were disabled.

Also, Vandal Savage vs. Ra's? I've always found Ra's to be a more formidable opponent; he seems more like Batman, in that he is far more prepared for possible outcomes.

Of course, the DCU animated movies have so far been far better than the Marvel ones, so hopefully this will still be good. I really don't mind the changes, as long as the story is good. We shall see soon enough.

I find your lack of signature disturbing.

Plastic Man was once mentioned by name in the JLU ep with Booster Gold, but he was never seen. Either it's a popularity issue or a rights issue, imo.

As to Aquaman, his appearance in Superman TAS and JL/JLU was Aquaman done RIGHT. He was the KING of Seas and all knew it and there was respect. Also they made much better use of his aquatic telepathy when it was used. But the superfriends stigma still lingers I suspect.

Rha's is Batman's nemesis in the same way that Moriarty is to Sherlock Holmes. Rha's is at least as wealthy, has a vast business empire, is well trained in combat, has a keen intellect and tactical mind. The only things that separate him from Batman are his willingness to kill to achieve his goals and of course the Lazarus Pit.

Seems kind of funny that Marvel gets the majority of it's live action movies right, yet still has trouble with some of their animation work and DC does fantastic with the cartoons yet aside from most of the Batman movies and Superman 1 and 2, they just can't get their movies going. Batman Forever, Batman and Robin, Superman 3 4 and Returns, Catwoman were just bad, and Green Lantern seemed to miss the mark also. Their live action FLash TV series was fun to watch though.

Rha's financial resources seem to rival Batman's, and I think his plan when he first appeared was to cause the Lazarus Pit's to overload and flow over the Earth, causing a rebirth affect to the planet while wiping out a good portion of the population. So while he may not want to blow up the planet, he will still wipe out as much of the population as he feels is necessary.

I was amped up to see this. It did, however, fall short of my expectations. Cool how they got most of the voice actors back but it wasn't enough to make me feel like it was a worthy successor to the JLU series. Comparatively speaking, JLU's epic battles always got my heart pumping and the stories almost always engrossing. In this incarnation, I never once felt like the Justice League was on the ropes and Bane letting Batman live? Come on. Even without breaking the fourth wall everyone in the DCU knows not to underestimate Bats. The writers could have been a tad more creative in how to do away with Bruce as well as his escaping certain doom. Furthermore, I had to scoff when Superman said, "Maybe I can move the Earth out of the way."

It wasn't all bad and it certainly wasn't terrible (I give that dubious honor to Supes/Bats Absolute Power) but it lacked the sophistication and impact of JLU.

Watched this weekend. Overall, I enjoyed it. I just found the League take-down a little un-Batman. What made the original storyline very believable (Bats experimenting with kryptonite, with Scarecrow's fear gas, etc.) didn't really show through here. Yes, they did get the Martian Manhunter's right, and more or less Wonder Woman's as well, but the rest seemed kinda contrived.

A Kryptonite bullet? Yes, Vandal Savage did modify Bats' plans, but a bullet was his best solution? The Flash one was interesting, but it was Speed all over again. Green Lantern seemed kinda weak as well. Also, if Wonder Woman was really seeing people as Cheetah, wouldn't there have been a bunch of dead and seriously wounded people around her?

Like I said, overall I enjoyed it. I just found it to be a bit far from the source materiel. If I had never read the Tower of Babel storyline, I'd probably be okay with the movie. As I have, I found it a little lacking.

I don't care for this art style, but I found the movie to be pretty good overall.
