Feb 2012 Group Fly Gripe

Group Fly is a very nice power, but very unusable in a group the way it is ATM.

Here are a few suggestions:

1. Allow players to click the buff off

2. Allow for a option in the interface right below the teleport option to disable group fly.

Gripe: I have zero clue why they could make an option in the interface for Teleport ( Single or Group ) but not for Group Fly.

Understanding that making changes to the interface seem to be a big deal. So I think suggestion number 3 would be a decent temp fix for at least the next 3 to 5 years until you guys figure out how to do it in the interface.

3. Have Null the Gull hanging around EVERY TRAINER in EVERY ZONE. At least with this if someone decided to use Group Fly now they would have some leg to stand on telling the person you can go to any trainer in any zone and look for the sea gull near him or her to fix your issue. Instead of telling someone go to Pocket D and look for a sea gull on a truck. Especially when they might not have the power to get there and have no clue what in the world Pocket D is.

Now of course that is not a fix compared to having it in a interface because you cannot reach Null the Gull inside a mission or doing an incarnate mission like you can your interface. But least its something. Its a start in the right direction.

I'm not really clear why they put some of these options on Null instead of the menu anyway. I mean sure, I can see where it would be handy for him to tell you the progress on your Portal Jockey AV hunts, but things like Mystic Fortune or Group Fly toggling ought to be just as accessible as the prompt teleport option is.

And also, Null won't talk to you if you're on a TF, which means if you get on a TF with someone who likes to use Group Fly and you haven't disabled that option yet, you're out of luck until it's over.

As a long time player I would say it is in part because of all the griefing that was done with TP and the lack of such from group fly. Just a FEW of the misuses of TP that occurred in the past are listed below.

TPing a level 8 off the edge of a sky scraper in Steel Canyon which puts the level 8 in a Hospital surrounded by lv 12-14 villains. I TPed my fair share of players back to the train station from that hospital.

TPing a player into a bunch of +8 villains.

TPing a player deep into +5 villain mission with prisons (Dying and "Going to Hospital" just takes you back into the missions prison) and then leaving.

TPing a character into the sealed Watch Towers in Portal Corp or the Lab rooms in the basement of Atlas Park (Yes, people would be forced to call out in broadcast for someone to TP them out.)

I saw TP used in cases that while not Dev defined griefing upset the player including...
TPing a player who is taking "to long" training, buying or selling to the mission door.
TPing a Tank who was AFK into mobs and continuing the mission without permission

Then there are the countless times a well meaning player uses TP at the wrong time. They think "someone" is in trouble and TPs them to safety when in reality "someone" was walking the edge but had it under control. Yea I've done that one.

Likewise TP Friend was available at level 6 and I doubt there is a week I have played that it was not used on me. My main who has TP Friend uses it on almost every team I join. By contrast Group Fly was a level 20 power that few took and that outside of the Hami Drop team I have never had used on me or even offered.

Another possibility is that the power could not easily be disabled without a major rewrite to the code. Since so few players had the power used on them, and fewer still had complaints it was probably put on the back burner. Keep in mind that Speed Boost a power that had huge threads full of complaints still took years to fix.

I have a gripe about Group Fly too.

It's a horrible power.

And I disable Group Flight on all my toons that I remember to do it on

Because ya know, it's so awesome when I'm playing a character that has certain attacks that only work on the ground, and someone activates Group Fly with no regard for anyone else on the team and then refuses to turn it off because it's their concept toon and they have this magical need to have their allies fly around with them.

Yea, I'm bitter about the power.

i dont have a gripe about the power itself but more about the fact the option isnt A) global for all of your toons or B) much more easily accessible

Turn it into a 90 second click PBAoE fly buff with 80 second unenhanceable recharge so it's perma without having you fall out the sky because of brief lag. Anyone that doesn't want it can decline or remove it with right click, add an auto decline to options and/or Null.

I am the Blaster, I have filled the role of Tank, Controller and Defender
Sometimes all at once.
Union EU player! Pip pip, tally ho, top hats and tea etc etc

There are situations in which it is useful, though. Well, one situation anyway—if you're playing a Mastermind and your pets don't have flight ability. (And if you do it with a bots Mastermind, your bots have little jets coming out of their feet. Really cool!)

It is nice that they provide a way to turn it off, so people who do like it can use it without it ticking off teammates (or at least those who've remembered to turn it off). It's annoying, though, that they don't make it more convenient than having to travel to a specific zone (and not be on a Task Force) to do it.
