What Happens to Toons on VIP Exalted Server if you drop down to a Free Premium Account?

Exalted Server Access requires Sub...toons stay put.
Sub: Subscription.. either monthly payments, time Cards or bundled payment plans.

Characters are never deleted. We told you this in your last thread regarding dropping to premium. (Exception being abusing exploits.)
Characters on Exalted are inaccessible while Premium, however you can spend any accumulated server transfer tokens, or buy more server transfer tokens, to move them to another server. (Note you need an empty slot on the target server in order to move them. This may or may not require purchasing one or more character slots.)

Before I went Premium, I moved a character I wanted to reroll to a different server. When I decided that I wanted to bring him back to my main server to strip his IOs, I discovered that the only thing you can do to a locked character is unlock or delete them. I had to use one of my server slots to unlock him before I coould move him - even though I had a Transfer Token, the Transfer button was greyed out until he was unlocked.
Since a Premium can't unlock slots on Exalted, there's no way to transfer them off that server, unless you do it before your subscription ends.

Players dropping to Premium have no one to blame but themselves if they don't take the time and if necessary spend the money to transfer characters off of Exalted they want to continue playing before their sub expires.

The only time a VIP would have to buy more slots is if they want to put characters on a server that already has 12 slots filled, and every VIP has known for years that they have to buy extra slots if they already used the 12 per server they get for subscribing.
The OP has been playing the game long enough to know that already.
The OP has also been playing long enough to know that when a VIP drops to Premium the number of available character slots drops drastically and any character shuffling needs to be done before the sub expires. That information has been discussed both in the game and on the forums since July of last year. It has also been posted clearly on the side by side comparison on the main website comparing what each type of account gets.
Nobody's debating any of that. All I was warning the OP of is that if they wait to move characters until after they're Premium, they won't be able to, because locked characters can't be transferred until after they're unlocked - which can't be done in the case of the Exalted Server. Show me where in the Side by Side Comparison it explains that.

Hmm. I have a second account that's premium with a character on Exalted. The Transfer button is active (I have two transfers), and if I click it I get the dialog telling me that I'm going to use a transfer. I don't want to transfer the character, so I'm not gonna waste it on a test, but it looks like it'll work exactly as one would want it to.

I assure you that what I posted was true when I attempted to transfer a character as a Premium a while back. When I posted on the forums and submitted a ticket, I had both players and GMs assuring me that it was working as intended.
I don't have any transfer tokens at the moment, and like Rodion, I don't feel like wasting money to test this, but if it now works as one would expect (ie, you can move a locked character as long as you have an unlocked slot on the destination server), that's a good thing, and I'm glad that they changed or fixed it, as the case may be.

Mentlegen, if I may;
My alt account, which went Premium this month has SUCCESSFULLY transferred a character off of exalted. The only thing needing to be unlocked before transferring was a slot on the DESTINATION server (as in, you cannot transfer a character into a locked slot, and then create a character on the newly opened slot).
If what Roderick is saying is true of his experience, it is no longer the case. Celebration and rejoicing for all!

However players can use those unlocks to open empty slots as long as they are one of the original 12 per server, or one that they earned/bought. They can then transfer characters off of Exalted into those unlocked empty slots.
No, I'm afraid you still don't get it.
-I had a character on Defiant. I had no Server Slots on Defiant. When I selected that character, I was unable to even click the transfer button until I after I unlocked it.
-When I unlocked the character, the Transfer button lit up, and I had to spend a SECOND slot to move the character to Victory.
-My characters on Exalted had their Transfer buttons greyed out too, and because Premiums can't unlock slots there, there was NO way to move them off the server.
However, according to what Rodion said, the devs realized that that was either stupid, or broken, and fixed it - which makes this entire conversation moot.

So, deciding I wanted to take a break for awhile from CoH, I canceled my billing and will drop down to "free" premium status the first week of Feb. this year. The majority of my toons are on the Freedom Server but I also have 6 toons on the VIP Exalted Server. One being my first and best toon. So, what happens to those who do drop down to "free" status premium account, do they automatically move your toons you have on the VIP server back to the first server they came from OR,..and this is the scary part, are they deleted or removed being that one would no longer have access to them? I cannot imagine they would be deleted but if so, then I will need to reactivate my billing and move them.
