Server Descriptions

If Masterminds didn't suck, they'd be the most powerful AT in the game.
Unfortunately no description would prepare any player for their actual experience. Communities=players, and players are all different from each other, so your experience with a 'community' all comes down to which particular players you come across and how you interact and get along with them.
I play a lot on Champion, and my experience is that there are a lot of very helpful, nice, shameless min/maxing powergamers there. But that's just because I have connected to some circles with lots of experienced gamers that laugh at the toughest game content and have treated me nicely. I know for a fact there are others on the server who are brand new and don't know a thing about min-maxing. Or that there may be less civil (Or outright jerkish) players somewhere on the server too. It all comes down to who you play with, and that changes with people's playtimes and outside obligations.
A server description wouldn't do much in most cases to prepare a player for what to expect from the individuals they meet and play with. That they have to figure out by playing, talking, and teaming with people. In fact, any such description would set up false expectations and almost certainly some disappointments or misunderstandings.
Server "descriptions" would help if they were enforced, or any *actual* differences between them, like the games that have official RP, PVP, etc. servers.
Here - what does "friendly" server mean? Or just because Virtue is the *un*official RP server - why should other servers RP communities be deprived of new RPers because of a description?
Wanted: Origin centric story arcs.
If you've only played an AT once (one set combo) and "hate" it - don't give up. Roll a different combo. It may just be those sets not clicking for you.

Also who decides what description gets used? Many people would say Freedom has a less than stellar reputation while others would say that the bad rep isn't indicative of the entire population.
And another server had an unofficial nickname that is now against forum rules to use. I know as I've been modded for using it.
I have to agree with everyone else on this one. Officially, there's no difference between the servers (aside from Exalted being VIP-only and two being in languages other than English). The differences are in the communities themselves, and that's sort of... hard to boil down into a couple of sentences. It's also different depending on who you ask.
Seriously, go ask about Freedom in Virtue's Help channel and see what kind of venom surges forth. Certainly nothing a Freedom player is going to want used to identify his server to potential new players, I can promise you that. I imagine you'd get a similar response asking about Virtue in Freedom's Help channel (though there'd be a decidedly different tone to the abuse).
Besides that, some of the servers' "reputations" are meaningless for these purposes. Is it Pinnacle that's the "drunk server"? I can never remember, but whichever it is, that's because, years ago, people noticed it was usually the last one to come back up after downtime. How is that joking "reputation" in any way helpful to a new player? And Liberty and Triumph are "friendly"? Shouldn't they all be? I've found Virtue, Victory and Infinity pretty friendly, myself. Labeling one or two as "friendly" sort of implies that the others aren't.
FUN FACT: That burst of light when you level up is actually the effectiveness escaping from your enhancements all at once.
In answer to your third paragraph, yes that's the "reputation" I got in trouble for using because "blank" violates forum rules.

Yeah, I said it.

I've still not gotten an explanation for that "Australian Conspiracy".

I can say that Virtue is a lot less RP than it used to be, and it's much friendlier to new players. I tried it years ago and soon regretted my decision. But now the server has softened and I've matured as a player, and am very happy to say that I'm almost exclusively a Virtue player. That being said, I think that labeling it the RP server, and then having people play there and be critical of those that aren't RPing wouldn't be a good experience, especially for a new player.

Oh, I cannot WAIT to see:
Guardian (Catgurls galore!)
Pinnacle (Drunken masses.. hic!)
Bring it, devs, make this happen!
August 31, 2012. A Day that will Live in Infamy. Or Information. Possibly Influence. Well, Inf, anyway. Thank you, Paragon Studios, for what you did, and the enjoyment and camaraderie you brought.
This is houtex, aka Mike, signing off the forums. G'night all. - 10/26/2012
Well... perhaps I was premature about that whole 'signing off' thing... - 11-9-2012
While i think the idea has some merit... the reasons to have it outweigh the reasons to have it... though i think it would be funny for an april fool's day thing... and have the devs actually do the research for what the social rules and such are on each server
Look, this game and its associated communities are old. Years old. Very well established. It's safe to say that server communities are not going to be changing for the foreseeable future. And some new players are going to enjoy the game much, much more on some servers than on others. I think it might do something for player retention to give the servers a brief description on the server selection screen. As an example, Freedom is densely populated, Virtue and Union are both far more RP-heavy than normal, Liberty and Triumph are friendly, Justice was the victim of an evil Australian conspiracy, and so on. I had the foresight to google around and find that Virtue would probably be the best fit for me, but not all players will, and in fact the only reason I had this foresight is because poor server choices have hurt my game experiences in the past.
