Is there any point to slotting Unstoppable beyond the resistance cap?
Remember, resistance provides resistance to resistance debuffs.
At 89.7% damage resistance, if something hits you with a -100% damage resistance, it's going to get knocked down to a -10.3% effect, reducing you to 79.4%. I'm pretty sure there's nothing in the game with a power that does -100% damage resistance (except Rest).
Effectively, what happens is that when you get hit by the -res power, you take that much more damage than what you were taking before, so it's not just a straight subtraction. If, with your 89.7% resistance, you were taking 10 damage per second, getting hit with a -100% debuff will make you start taking 20 damage per second. Getting hit with a -20% debuff, which is more likely, will make you start taking 12 damage per second.
Beyond that, I don't actually know how numbers beyond the hardcap work, if they provide a buffer like numbers over the defense softcap do. But I can say that unless you plan to be fighting things so strong that you NEED that 89.7% and anything less will kill you...don't worry about it.
De minimis non curat Lex Luthor.

To answer the OP, I wouldn't worry at all about any more resistance than what you currently have.

The other two posters are correct. You can test this against Lady Winter who has an unresistable -res debuff.
I run a lot of brutes, and have for 4 1/2 years. My current main is a SS/Invul Brute. Well over half of my characters have been Brutes, and a good 1/3 or more of them have been Invul Brutes. I respectfully suggest you are asking the wrong question. The real question is "Is there any point in taking Unstoppable?" Even on Brutes that I just SO, I do not take Unstoppable. It is a horrible power with too high a price to pay for its use.

If I have space, I take it on a brute, otherwise, not.

I actually trumped Marauder with it the other day. He hit his Unstoppable, I waited around 60 seconds, ran out of inspirations and hit mine. We spent about two minutes trading punches, unable to beat each other until his Unstoppable ran out, I beat his *** and still had around a minute left on my own Unstoppable, enough to take down the one spawn of IDF and War Works troops that I hadn't gotten around to.
Personally, I'll take Unstoppable over Strength of Will or One with the shield, which was a big reason why I chose to make my Brute Titan/Inv as opposed to Titan/Will.
Samuel_Tow is the only poster that makes me want to punch him in the head more often when I'm agreeing with him than when I'm disagreeing with him.

A feature of Unstoppable I don't see mentioned very often is the extra mez protection it gives. When soloing mez heavy spawns set for 8 (especially when taking on multiple Master Illusionists) you can get mezed long enough to be defeated. It's an extreme edge case, but still a factor.
It also gives an extra source of Recovery for those rare times when your Recovery is highly debuffed. It was nice having the extra Recovery even on a fully IOed Brute in the Alpha Slot unlock story arc, or when fighting Vanguard and you get hit with that curse that heavily debuffs your Recovery. Again, an edge case, but something to think about.
And with attention and practice, the chance of being defeated when Unstoppable crashes approaches zero.
When fighting the IDF or Resistance, I never leave home without it.

WARNING: I bold names.
I have a bit of a quandary - the way I have my Invulnerability Brute, her resistance to everything but psi damage comes up to 89.7%. I'm aware that the Brute damage cap is 90% so the difference between the two is academic, but this is my T9 god mode power. Does it make sense to slot it for massive overkill in case I'm fighting something with strong resistance debuffs, or should I leave it as it is and not bother slotting any more resistance into it?
