Wonder what the devs regret?

I wonder if any of them regrets not giving us an offline character creator like the Korean version had? Probably not.

'I don't like the look of it at all,' said the King: 'however, it may kiss my hand if it likes.'
'I'd rather not,' the Cat remarked.
'Don't be impertinent,' said the King, 'and don't look at me like that!' He got behind Alice as he spoke.
'A cat may look at a king,' said Alice.

Hmmm... okay.

I regret that the /demorecord feature, a holdover from Cryptic and one of the few really spiffy features their code gave us, isn't utilized more by the players as a creative tool.

I regret that when players DO use the feature, they're more likely to use it to find out stuff we're not supposed to know yet, pounding one more nail into its coffin.

I regret that because it's a holdover from Cryptic and because it's not really utilized and because sometimes when it IS used, it's to skate around those troublesome things like NDAs and EULAs, Paragon Studios and NCsoft no longer support or troubleshoot it - in fact, I have it on good authority from more than a few rednames that having to keep it in the game breaks the coders' cajones. So those few of us who DO actually use it can't ask for either help or additional features, because more rednames than not wish the damn thing would just go away.

I regret that at this rate, they actually WILL make the damn thing go away before I get to finish all the videos I want to make.

Yeah, the bases were definitely something that must have had people on the development side beating their head against the wall. I mean, they were aimed at PvP, so you had to lock the editor down in a lot of ways to try and make sure that bases would be fair ground to fight in, but then after putting that restriction in... the base raid system didn't even work reliably. And this after a massive amount of development time and effort and a bunch of promotional focus was spent on the whole deal. So neither the people who just wanted "social housing" nor the people who liked PvP were really happy with it.

On the plus side, if they still do have any regrets over bases, the cure is a quick look through the "post your base images" thread. Some of the other problematic things mentioned in this thread may have resolved as kind of bittersweet at best, but the stuff people have managed to do with the base editor (clunky though it may still be) is all sweet, all the time.

And, yet, Virtue is still thriving and AE is used heavily by a lot of RP SGs there.

I haven't seen any "loss of a great many players". Several folks on your friends list, maybe. But that's not an accurate sampling of overall figures.

I have a big friends list and never saw a mass exodus either, but I also didn't make friends with those FILTHY AE BABIES!!!

Sorry... lost my composure there.

Most folks on my friends list. I could PM you a list of the names, as well as additions of people I know left with the AE. I still talk to several of them.

Just because you didn't see it doesn't mean it didn't happen. I'm sure Virtue's population is grand, but people DID leave.

There are perceived mass exoduses ( exodi? ) over any major change. I'm constantly seeing people screaming about them. If it was as bad as everyone perceived, the game would be a ghost town by now.

Funny thing: People tend to make friends in any setting with other people who have similar sets of interests. Just because a large chunk of your group happened to agree on something doesn't mean it reflects the overall global opinion on it. I don't doubt that some people left over AE. A few probably even stayed gone. But to say it was a "mass exodus" is just plain hyperbole.

No, you're right. My words, not yours. However, the point is still valid. I think you're inflating the impact to make it look like a much bigger blow than it actually was.
