So I just watched: Conan-athon
So, if it was a Beavis and Butthead quote, it'd be okay?
I often think there's a simple aspect to a lot of these differences between people and it is simply differences between people.
While I completely understand hatred of overkill on analysis and, even worse, incorrect analysis... and maybe even worse still, formulaic educated over-analysis that is also often-times incorrect... Haha... And that these are all often annoying traits that some people develop in order to "impress" others and/or make them feel better about themselves (and all the same can be true about playing the "dumb but tough" guy or girl), sometimes it really is just about the differences between people and how some people's minds work different ways.
What I may find boring and irrelevant, others may find fascinating.
What I may have to work at or spend time in order to achieve, others may have that come much more quickly and/or naturally.
Like this post... Over-thinking, too much time spent on insignificant claptrap? Quick taps of the fingers as someone casually lets out their immediate thoughts in-between doing other things around the office or home?
Who knows.
Do I even know?
Hmmm... Haha.
Back to my main point I was riffing on just before...
Some people have to work in order to find a certain style of comedy to be funny... While others only find that style of comedy funny... and others never will find it funny.
I just try not to judge them too harshly...
That and I don't hang out with them, regardless of how much beer they bring!
And who's to say that you and your friends aren't the fools for preferring beer over whatever discussions they'd start?
It's a crazy world!
and round up everyone that knows more than they do"-Dylan
They're also public domain in many countries (Not in the US, but the UK and Australia).

It's also a fun group of reads after you've seen the movies and are familiar with Frank Frazetta's art -- the inspirations become very clear.

I just watched the new Conan fiasco on DVD. Good lord, it was bad. How can you screw up a Conan reboot? Most of the weak points have been detailed. I found it to be a cross between Kevin Sorbo's Hercules and Pirates of the Carribean. Jason Momoa clearly worked his a$# off to get the physicality for the role and for what? What a waste. As stated, the musical score was dreck. The director totally blew the vibe. One thing I can't remember anyone saying is that the whole movie was far too clean. I never once felt like these people were living anywhere other than on a soundstage. Tragic fail, across the board.
I was wondering when the writing for this film would come up....the major problem I found out was with the rights themselves to even make this update.
It turns out first of all that the producers could not acquire the rights to the vast majority of the Howard estate, which resides largely with Marvel (who got the film rights after the Schwarzenegger movies). Now, you may be asking why didn't Marvel sue?
It turns out that when Marvel was going through their downsizing a few years ago, a lawyer misrepresented Marvel and sold the rights to make this film without their permission. Bear in mind this is just the movie rights, and virtually nothing of the literary rights, which is why you get just one scant quote from Howard's works, that being the 'I live, I love, I slay, I am content' bit.
As soon as this movie was released, Marvel filed an injunction against the production company to make any further films using the names and likenesses of the characters.
So it was pretty much a bit of a trainwreck from the getgo. And that's sad, because Momoa was particularly passionate about the role and even wanted to write a script should a sequel get greenlighted.
As it is, this will probably be a one-off until the court case is settled and Marvel decides what they want to do with the license.

I wanted to love the new Conan, I really did. For the most part the acting was much better than the original, the fight choreography was much much better, and Momoa makes a better Conan.
But the writing and directing were just plain bad. So all in all for me the movie balanced out to be ho-hum. Not worth owning but worth watching on cable if nothing else better is on at the time.

@Joshua.
I was the new film recently as well. Everything was just bad. The writing, from plot, to main and side characters. The horrible use of "in your face" 3D which comes across particularly bad in 2D. And the sets, way too much green screen. It was a sad, sad representation of such a wonderful character and mythos.
So much can be done with Conan with endless tales worth exploring. I for one can only hope that Marvel gets everything cleared up in court so they can go on to produce a wonderful film. Until then, I shall continue to enjoy the original stories, the early comic book run, and first film.
Shut up you. It had Olivia d'Abo in it, and she was teh hawt... underaged at 15, yes, I admit that, but teh hawt nonetheless.
/She's not 15 now, so that makes it ok right? //Why do you dress a 15 year old like that if you don't want men staring is beyond me... ///I'm goin' to jail, aren't I? Dangit... |
I gotta make pain. I gotta make things right. I gotta stop what's comin'. 'Least I gotta try.
I was 11 when it came out... so I think of it as just me remembering my adolecent years... Had to look up the title, but "Greedy" with Michael J Fox was certainly one of her finer roles. I find it odd that someone who looks like that has done so much voice work.

It's funny, because I am absolutely a mocker and anti-fan of the over-analysis (and, often times, completely untrue assumptions made) about other people's work.
Yet, I also enjoy what others may call "deeper" aspects of things. For me, it is just natural and immediate. Not something contrived to try and pass off as a greater.
As for the original Conan movie, while it is certainly overall just a fun action and adventure film, there is a great aspect of depth behind it. And that makes it far more fun for me than just a sword fight and leaping around.
I swear to if they weren't the ones that always brought the beer on game night we'd have never have put up with them.
I can't even begin to guess how many times someone asked why we let them game with us and someone else would reply, "They always bring a couple of cases of beer."
