Plant/Storm Build

Hello all,

Thanks to the thread "So why is plant/storm so awesome", I got the plant/storm bug.

A special thank-you to Kioshi and Tater Todd for their input and for everybody else in that thread for their information.

Here's my build. Please be gentle, as I'm not always the best at placing slots! LOL! And ignore that I slotted Stamina at such a high level! I forgot until then so when I make this guy, it will be much sooner.

Thank you very much for any advice you can offer.

My intentions: I don't mind teaming with him, but I want to be able to hold my own soloing. I have influence, but not sure I could load him down with many purple sets.

I appreciate your input very much.

Edit to add: I chose the Primal Force Mastery due to the draw of the Power Boost and Conserve Energy powers. However, if you have other suggestions, I'm open to them. I just know that this will be an endurance monster, so the Conserve Energy was quite appealing.

Rather than create a new thread, I thought I'd post a build I was working on. Maybe you can take some ideas from it and I can get mine improved as well =P
Was thinking going Cardiac/Rebirth. If Ageless really is good enough to kill all of Storm's end problems I could see going Intuition/Ageless

Thanks for posting your build, Swansu.

So should I just understand that without Ageless, I'm going to have a major END problem?

If so, I'll scrap him...as I don't want to have to do the incarnate grinding just to play this character (or game).

Soundtrack your build will be in better shape than Swansu's when it comes to endurance because you have conserve power. But you will need to make some enhancement modifications. Given this combinations high endurance drain the miracle/numina uniques in health and a performance shifter +endurance in Stamina are almost necessities. If you make those changes you may still have endurance troubles given your high recharge, but I wouldn't say that you would need an incarnate power to make the build viable (although cardiac certainly wouldn't hurt and won't require grinding incarnate content to the same extent that destiny would.) whereas without any endurance gaining power Swansu's build would likely prove painful preincarnate content even with those IOs.

In addition to those changes, other things that jump out at me:

damage proc would be better in roots, probably swap out the damage/range

Look at some plant guides, loading up creepers with procs seems to be the way to go.

There are other optimizations that could be made, especially if you're willing to play around with Hamios to free up slots (Steamy Mist and Temp Invulnerability) but since this doesn't seem to be a no cost spared build, I won't go there.

As your character is currently built, especially with that high of a recharge, you will almost certainly find that you run out of endurance if you try to run at full power for an extended period of time. Of course whether this is a "major" problem or not depends on how good you are at endurance management (modifying attack chains when you need to, perhaps not summoning LS every fight, etc.)

Furthermore, if you want to run at full power all the time, ageless is not your only option. The cardiac alpha slot will help substantially on this front, or if you don't want to be reliant on any incarnate content, pick an epic pool that provides you with an endurance recovery mechanism (fire mastery, ice mastery, primal forces mastery, leviathan mastery, mu mastery, soul mastery) and that may well be sufficient for most purposes.

For Swansu: I can't comment on ageless since I almost always go with Clarion for the mez protection so someone else will need to chime in on that.

The only thing that really jumps out at me in your build is that the Soulbound Allegiance in Tornado is wasted, it works out to be only a 6.25% damage increase: you would better off just slotting a damage IO. (see my guide if you want the numbers).

Wow, Draggynn, I really appreciate all the time you put in to replying. Thanks!

I'm wondering if perhaps I want to have LESS recharge. Maybe a plant/storm doesn't need all that recharge? Sure, a lot of recharge is nice, but if one doesn't have the endurance to feed it, it seems futile.

Thanks for your tip on perhaps other masteries and Cardiac. I'll have to check into how to obtain Cardiac...sounds a bit more doable than Destiny (based on your input).

With regards to some masteries (Leviathan, Mu, etc.)... does a hero need to become a vigilante, then a villain, to obtain these? I thought that was the case, but perhaps I'm wrong?

I like your idea about putting a proc in Stamina and maybe increasing Health with some slots so I could put in a set. As I was crafting him in Mids, I realized that I had extra slots and wasn't sure where to put them...now I know.

So thanks again for your help!

I wouldn't intentionally give up recharge just to give up recharge. If you see some other bonus or other slotting you are interested in going for, I wouldn't stick with recharge bonuses purely to stick with recharge bonuses either, seeing as you note you may not have the endurance to take advantage of all that recharge. However, even if you don't have enough endurance to go full steam all the time, keeping the recharge bonuses gives you the ability to play more aggressively if you have, for example, a kin, or an emp on your team that can aid in your endurance woes.

For the alpha incarnate slot, you can simply run a shortish arc in ouroboros from Mender Ramiel, and then play regularly and incarnate shard necessary for crafting alpha incarnate powers can drop from any enemies. Alternatively components for the alpha slot can also be earned by running the various lvl 50 task forces (or the weekly task force). There is no necessity to even touch the new incarnate trials. Although the alpha slot is incarnate content and therefore only available to VIPs.

You are correct, the villain masteries do indeed require side switching.

Thanks for the additional tips, Draggynn.

I have a lvl 50 who did the Ouroboros trial, so I'm aware of that.

Seeing as my plant/storm has JUST got lvl 19, I have some time to work on him to see how I'll want to play him.

Thank you!

I gave you some HP and added KB protection. Removed the double LoTGs because the little regen you have won't make a difference.

You also had an excess 6.25% rech bonus and an extra 2.5% recovery.

I'm not sure Power Boost will help Storm much, I think it'll only help your controls' durations and Hurricane (F.Rain -res is unnafected I think). But I never had power boost on any toon.

Went back & made a couple changes. End Recov is a little better, End Use is down some. Couldn't get the 90% recharge I hoped for but 87.5% isn't to bad.Ageless does cure the end problems, 100% Recovery (iirc) which is perma at T4 ain't to shabby as well as giving me a good amount of recharge. 35% Ranged Def. Anything you see please point it out.

Wow, Kioshi!

I'm very grateful you did that for me. Thanks very much!

Regarding the HO: Nuclei...are those something that can be purchased at WW? Or is there some other method I'd obtain them?

And the extra KB protection is always appreciated!

No prob, I like fiddling with builds, and you really want a -KB IO there.
The HOs can be bought on WW and even combined like SOs so you can have a level 53 HO (at least I was told that when I asked).

I think they are extremely expensive nowadays tho, been a while I slotted a toon with them (before I left which was before GR), at the time I used some of the most expensive ones (tohit/def/recharge on my Fortitude) but they weren't very pricy, I think they are now from what I read here. It depends tho, the acc/mez ones people use on Cage powers mostly were dirt cheap for example, but the acc/dam I used on Carrion Creepers must be among the expensive ones. Just look for the name in WW (nucleolus I think, can't check Mid's now because I'm on my iPad)

If they're quite expensive, would you have any other suggestion what I'd slot in their place?

Hmm just checked ingame, they aren't as expensive as I thought - last 5 sales

75 mil
and the other 4 25-35 mil

The ones I mentioned I used on my empath (tohit/def/rech) are 200-300 million, I thought the acc/dam would be in that ballpark as well.

Okay, Kioshi, thanks. I'll check into those.

I'm guessing that there isn't any less expensive alternative that you'd recommend?

Thanks again.

Any comments on the 2nd build I posted?

Well if you use normal acc/dam (like a posi and a detonation) you'll get 53% acc/dam instead of 66% from the two HOs. But hey those nucleolus are like 1/4 the price of a LoTG +rech recipe (which goes for 100-150 mil on weekends) and give the same stats as a purple acc/dam IO which is ZOMG expensive.

You could skimp a bit on the acc and buy only one Nuc and put a damage IO, that'd give 33% acc and about 75% damage.

That looks like a very solid build, I just don't know if global acc plus kismet affects Creepers because I only have it with SOs atm.

You can get a little more def to all (e/n to 32.7, ranged to 35.6) if you slot one Enzyme instead of the 2 Cytos in Steamy mist and put an extra def in CJ. The endred in Steamy will suffer, alternatively you could put two enzymes in SM and ranged goes to 35.4%, not that much since you already have 35.2%. But e/n hits the 'magic' 32.5% so you'd be capped with one small purple.

Hami-Os can be earned two ways. You can participate in a Hami-Raid. Most servers have a few regular Raids per week -- it is a fairly complex process and usually one person becomes the Raid Leader, and directs the players to certain roles based upon their AT (and skill). It is not very hard, but until you know what you are doing, you will probably faceplant a few times. At the end of the Raid, you are given a choice of several rewards, one of which is a random Hamidon Origin Enhancement.

Centrioles (Dam/Range) are very common and don't sell for much. The next most common is Nucleous (Acc/Dam), which are very useful. Some of the Hami-Os are pretty valuable, like Enzymes (DefenseDebuff/ToHitDebuff/EndRdx). Because of certain exploits in the game, these can be used in a lot of different ways.

You can also earn "Synthetic Hamidon Origin Enhancements" by completing the Statesman's TF or the Lord Recluse SF. It is usually much easier to get a team of 8 together to run these than attending a Hami-Raid. The "Synthetic" Hami-Os are exactly the same as regular Hami-Os other than the extra word . . . but for some reason, the Synthetic ones are usually a bit cheaper on the market.

This is generally my favorite way to earn Hami-Os, as the Statesman TF is a lot of fun with a good team.

LOCAL MAN! The most famous hero of all. There are more newspaper stories about me than anyone else. "Local Man wins Medal of Honor." "Local Man opens Animal Shelter." "Local Man Charged with..." (Um, forget about that one.)

Thanks for chiming in, Local Man, as I always find your advice valuable.

Is the STF (found in IP) for lvl 50s?

Heh I forgot about the STF - I got sick of it because my Brazilian coalition always wanted my mind/emp to go for Mo attempts - I was called the 'best healer' there but I barely healed, it's just that controllers are superior to defenders in almost every way and the other empaths were all defs

IIRC the STF can be run from 45-50, you may want to check paragon wiki. Although Nucleolus are much cheaper than a lot of stuff you have planned, you may get lucky with a Microfilament or Enzyme which are very expensive.

Just got IO'd and +3 the other day...Holy ****. Plant/Storm lives up to the hype, hands down. It's like the more opponents I'm against, the easier it gets. So much AoE chaos & carnage, so many ways to control. Simply awesome. Only downside is I don't have a heal because I went Ageless & Psionic Mastery. But with 5 other Incarnate slots left, it's up in the air still if I'll even need one.

Any chance of posting the build? I am wanting to give plants a run and wondering if it should be a 'troller or a dominator. It seems plant/storm might be the tops when using plant.
