I think once you hit 2 or 3 I get it, but whatever. I don't understand AT snobs because you will still get done. I hate Synapse TF so much that I would want more damage to go faster, but other than that, I would be FINE with more tanks.

It's a little like the guy who quit our STF the other day when he realized we had formed without an emp. He "had been on these before with no emp and wasn't willing." Of course, we did a speed run through it and somehow did it without an emp...

This game wasn't built (at least recently) for specific ATs. Yes, some work better, but there is not need for being a snob.

I was in a team forming for Apex once when I saw exactly that happen... Leader was asking for more DPS, a FA/SS asked to join and was denied and I said in he team channel "FA/SS actually does a lot of damage... and it's a second tank if we need one" and the leader's answer was "Not as much as a blaster os scrapper, lol"...

I decided to shut up and put up with it (while thinking "stacked rage + FE + bruising + SS and Burn... guess it depends on the blaster/scrapper") because I really wanted to run that Apex and nothing else had been going on in that server for a while at the time... In the end, no blasters/scrappers showed up and he took another defender (we had a bunch), saying we'd debuff them to death...

I understand (don't really agree, but understand) people having been worried about too much melee in Apex, back then when not everybody was level-shifted or used to play around the patches of doom... People would argue that melee running around would lower their DPS so much that it would make it tougher to defeat BM in time (I only ever saw that happen when people were dying due to floods of swords, not because of too much melee), but we did NOT have too much melee in that team and the leader had said a scrapper would do... So I guess certain people are just locked in their thought patterns (and this applies to the OP).

Then again, he was willing to lead and I wasn't, so I shouldn't complain too much.

That is all.

Too many tankers? Pffft... does one go to a bar and say "oh, I'm sorry, you have TOO much good scotch here." or go to a strip club and say "oh I'm sorry, there are just TOO many boobs here." No! And thus it is with tankers. There is no such thing as too many.

Actually, yes. Yes one does. Ofcourse, the immediate next sentence is "Let me help you drink it."

Thinking back, I can't remember the last time I was in a non-Trial/Task Force PUG that had a Tanker except the rare times I run mine... o_O Too many Tankers? I don't see enough...

So true. Trials are about the only place you will run into another tanker on a consistent basis.

THIS is the only tanker that'd qualify as "too many"

Yeah, I've been on teams where I've had to put up a 2 minute long disclaimer on what I will and will not do for people....needless to say I don't play my EMPs much unless I'm feeling "nice".

Yeah, I've encountered this a couple of times recently.

The first time was on a team running a praetoria av team in Peregrine. The team was mostly a group of people that had been away from the game for a while and were coming back. They had a tanker who was adequate, but his tanking style was a bit idiosyncratic and he couldn't seem to completely control all the aggro. When I joined they wanted me to switch for "more damage", so I switched to a Brute and it all worked out, even though the team was a bit disorderly.

The most recent was a Statesmans TF. I was piloting a Tanker at the time and the leader was also, and wanted me to switch to "DPS or a healer".

Luckily I talked him out of it because his tank lacked taunt and was less durable than the lone scrapper on the team. I ended up tanking Recluse after he insisted on doing it and repeatedly face planted a few times, so all's well that ends well.

In both cases, I got the feeling that the underlying scenario was players returning to CoH after stints on WoW or other MMO's working off of a different set of operating assumptions and play style.

From my standpoint another Tanker isn't needed and when ya do have that second tank there is something of a failure normally. I've been in PuGs where people knew the Tanker they had and so I got an alt only to find that the Tank they knew wasn't much good but people will be people who don't mind failing something repeatedly because there was fun involved. Me I wouldn't dedicate my life to repeating nothing if I can help it. Lets face it if ya spent a thousand hours on a Tanker only to write everything ya know on 2 sides of A4 something is wasted.

This is when I usually quit the team and "/b Apex lfm. Any AT welcome!"
