The First Ambassador to Another Planet

The governor of Delaware just appointed the First Ambassador to Mars. Isn't one of the jobs of an Ambassador is live in a foreign country and represent the interests of their nation? I could understand it if there was alien life on Mars in contact with Earth or a human colony on Mars, but this makes as much sense as an Ambassador to Atlantis.

The first step in being sane is to admit that you are insane.

Not to mention a state governor lacks the authority to appoint an ambassador to another planet.

I wouldn't be surprised if US scientists "discover" intelligent life on Mars bent on our destruction. Starting Wars seems to be a President tradition for improving ratings. Of course, the Martians are just CG created images to instill fear in Americans so the government will have more control over our lives.

Don't worry I have asked professor Ogilvy and apparently the chances of anything coming from Mars are a million to one.

Ummm states don't have the ability to assign ambassadorial positions so this is just Delaware being dumb.

Why can't they give him something like a real award... and why cant reward be something like "For notable awesomeness in the scientific field, the awesome scientist award"

I think a freedom of the city/state would have been better. Sounded more like an intern position created for some DC politician's dumbwit offspring? "Special trade representative to Nunavut" would probably have been better...

Is it time for the dance of joy yet?

Given the fact that there's no known people on Mars for an ambassador to be appointed to I think the fact that a state Governor doesn't have the authority to do it is safely moot. The Governor of Delaware has as much "authority" to do what he did as I have to appoint you Earth's ambassador to Coruscant.

Given that ambasadors are normally sent to the country/region they are assigned, it's entirely possible this is a really public message to this guy that the governor wants him to go far, far away.

Maybe I could use that on my resume as job experience and get myself appointed to the Canadian Senate. It'd be one more qualification than any of our current senators have.
