DM/SR Auto Defense/Resistance Necessary?

Hello,

I have a dark melee/super reflexes and I was wondering if I needed to get the passives for resistance and how much resistance (percents preferred) would they grant? Are there other powers that you all would replace it with? I only have 2 toggles so end isn't a problem.

P.S. Is evasion that useful? I have incredible AoE defense from hide already (though I know it suppresses).

The passives are important because they provide Defense Debuff resistance. If stalker numbers are anything like Scrappers, you will be able to shrug off a lot of defense debuffs if you get and slot up the passives. I definitely wouldnt recommend skipping them.

I agree with the above post. I would add only that I eventually (after complete IO slotting on my SR) found I could do without the AoE passive. Partly because I was getting some AoE bonuses from IOs.

Also..
AoE tend not to hit as hard on a single target (here you), and I found I was not seeing any actual defense debuff despite many stacks of def debuff powers on me as analyzed by the buff/debuff bar and the combat attributes readouts.

I am guessing that if you didnt take some of the passives you could get debuffed, but I have never tested that.

You can probably do without them if you solo +1 x2 or less. Skipping Agile, Dodge and Evasion (Stalkers do not have Lucky) would drop your DDR by about half. They are all mandatory to make a build better all round imho. Having them would make your character a machine to 90% of the material vs dropping them and being good at 75% of material (Don't quote me on the percentages, just a guesstimate).

I tried aggressively slotting for DDR on a /SR stalker and had about 91%. Slotting them mildly still gave 81% DDR. I decided to go in between with 84% as it saved me 10 slots to use in other areas. 95% would be ideal for any /SR but because Lucky was removed for Hide, I do not think it's possible.

The passives give Resistance according to how much health you're missing. I don't think the scaling Resistance is particularly important, but you should be taking them anyway for the Defense and the Defense Debuff Resistance (DDR).

A Super Reflexes Scrapper can get 95% DDR, turning the usual 7.5% debuff into a .375%, which is small enough that a soft-capped SR Scrapper doesn't really have to worry about cascading Defense failure. However, as a Stalker you only two of the passives. Since you have so much less DDR it makes what DDR you can have that much more important, especially so when you consider your low HP total.

So yes, get them. Consider the scaling Resists as a bonus. :P

Even a SR Stalker that takes every Defense granting power is "only" getting around 87% DDR (compared to 95% for every other SR Archetype). Skip any of them, and that number drops off significantly. High DDR is one of the main reasons you even roll SR to begin with. Never skip any of the passives or toggles, unless you want to gimp yourself.

Also, the only way a SR Stalker gets to 95% DDR is with Elude, so think twice about leaving that out of your build, too. It is skippable on Tankers, Brutes and Scrappers, but less so on Stalkers.

Defense bonuses are not a substitute for DDR (even if they can help compensate for a lack of it up to a certain point; for example, getting your Defense up to 48% from 45% can help keep you from going below 45% Defense in most situations. At 45%, lots of enemy groups can take you down to 43% or even less even with 95% DDR. That's a huge increase in incoming damage! An extra 3-5% Defense insures you never go below 45% Defense, except under extreme debuffing.)

Is it possible for a /SR Stalker to get to 95% DDR with nerve or or the other alpha that gives +def? It might be a decent option to get the full DDR if possible.

Looking at mids, completely overslotting the defense powers can get to the 95% point on a /SR stalker, but we're talking four powers six-slotted with +defense IOs and one six-slotted with Enzymes(!). Not worth it.
