Change Origin Token

Hi,

I know quite a few people would buy these, if they were sold in the store. I would. You should make these.

What do you folks think?

Origin change requests have been made before, and shot down before. Devs' stance at the moment is "too hard to code and very unlikely to happen".

our origin along with powersets is essentially hardcoded when we create the character, once we finish creating the character those things are locked in and the only easy way to change them is reroll

according to the devs it would be extremely difficult to change and they said if you wanted new origin or powersets that it would be better to just reroll

It would be really, really awesome if Respec tokens allowed us to change our origins

This isn't a reproach but a simple question; Why would you "need/want" to change your origin other than for simple backstory/rp reasoning? I would think if you are that engrossed in your toon's "history" this would be something well thought out ahead of time.

Yeah, I wasn't aware Origin really had any affect on anything ever in this game. Hardly anyone even really pays attention to the thing, so I really don't think it'd be worth dev time to come up with a change token for it.

Maybe if Origin actually did something useful in this game.

From my understanding, this is what origin does:
-Everyone gets a weak ranged attack at level 1 based on their orign
-SO/DO enhancements require certain origin(s)
-Some dialog draws upon your origin.

It came up in a separate discussion that making origin changeable would take so much rewriting and restructuring of code, that it simply would not be worth it for what minor effect origins end up having on the game.

I've rerolled to change my origin, when I got a character to SOs and realized that the one I'd pick didn't really match my concept. (I've also rerolled to change body type, before that was a tailor option, and to change powersets.) So I do understand where (I think) the OP is coming from.

That said, my answer to all of the above cases is "reroll." Yes, even if the character is in their 20s like mine were.

reroll ... I spend 4 hours getting to 20. it's pretty easy now-a-days.

I can't speak for anyone else who would like the option, but it's purely a concept/RP thing in my case...

When I created Kestrel and Surruna I just picked the "Magic" origin for them out of pure habit. That's what the rest of my Rularuu bird-things are, and it's the enhancement set whose names I'm most familiar with.

Trouble is, those two aren't really magical creatures. Their back-story gives them a completely different genesis than the rest of their species. They're lab-created artificial hybrids. I *should* have given them both Science origins... and I would have if I'd paused to give it any thought at the time.

But I didn't, and now they're stuck with origins that don't match their basic concept. (And since both are fully-equipped, 50+3 full Incarnates that I've been playing long enough to get attached to, it's much to late to just to scrap them and start over.)

So, while it's a minor detail with no in-game importance at all, I'd still like the option to change it. Having the "wrong" origin attached to them is like having a little splinter that you can't dig out. Not major by any means, not deadly... but still annoying when you notice it's there.

Now for me the annoyance is the powers that come with Origins. The only one I like is Throwing Knives so I usually take Natural. My concepts nearly always fit multiple Origins so it doesn't bother me that Natural wouldn't be someone else's first choice.

I'm torn between the part of me that has full sympathy and understanding of how this sort of thing can be, and the part that wants to answer bluntly, "So, next time, pay attention."

Fair enough... I never claimed I wasn't an idiot, after all.

But mistakes, concept evolution and plain, flat-out bad picks are still going to happen sometimes, no matter how careful we are on the whole. It would be nice to have a way to correct them when they do.
