VIP 'Buddy' System
Well now that's an interesting idea. Kind of like a "sponsor." I think that they'd want to have some sort of way to be able to link the activity of the freebie to the VIP though. That way if an RMT VIP account were to sponsor a freebie to do its dirty work, the GMs and Devs would be able to see who the sponsor was and be able to track that.
Other than that, I really like this idea.

maybe get a mentor badge that the freebie would sign off on as well. Kinda like trouble shooting forum searches "_____ is your mentor for _ months, have they been helpful [yes] [no]" This answer then informs the mentor of recieving or being denied the badge. To encourage valid mentorship.
The other option would be a SG mentorship. The free account could ONLY talk in SG chat and isn't actually part of the SG itself. The likelihood of a useful person being online when the person needs them would be higher and might give a discount on base cost ... like a charity.
If possible this idea should be added in game ASAP, and you sir (OP) should get a cookie.

Another advantage to a SG charity system would be that, the freebies would be encouraged to pay for the game, so they could be a real member of the SG due to SG only TF/SFs and benefits of the SG base. This could help the games over all pocket book. something to think about Devs
I think this could be made to work better if we were allowed to gift PPs to other players or accounts.
No, I am not going to send you or anyone else cash. I know of a player who just had to have Tier 9 VIP Celestial stuff. So he paid enough cash to gain all the points needs to earn the rewards. Roughly $100 in fact. He can afford it so that is fine, but now he sets on more Paragon Points than he could ever use, he would like to be able to gift a few points now and then to newbies to help them out. (He has EVERYTHING on that account now that's worth having.)
That's really very admirable in my opinion.
My own daughter is thinking about her own account, she has a toon on mine but she would like to be able to team with me. She does not really want to pay for VIP as she does not have the time to play often enough. I would like to be able to gift her points so that she can upgrade things as she see's fit.
I really don't see how it hurts anyone, nor can I see any room for abuse of the system. NCSoft gets money and players who might not otherwise be able to afford to buy points get some help.
That's purely win-win as I see it. . .
Sounds good to me.

I recently read a thread (I think it was in this section of the forums) in which a player was having difficulties convincing a friend with a free account to continue playing the game due to the restrictions placed on free account communication.
So I thought to myself, "Self, how would you make the free account experience more friendly for people with VIP friends?" So naturally I answered, "Set up a buddy system."
The idea is this: allow a VIP to 'buddy up' with a free account (kinda like a level pact or sidekicking, but for accounts, not characters), which would remove some of the more burdensome chat restrictions. The free account would be able to send tells to the VIP account, trade with the VIP account, and join a single global channel that the VIP account is also in. A possibility would be to link the accounts in such a way that the free account would only be able to talk in the global channel when the VIP is also online.
Supergroups are a different animal altogether, as they aren't tied to a global name. Given that free accounts have only 2 character slots, a VIP-linked free player should be allowed to join a supergroup, but be blocked from receiving promotions.
A VIP would only be able to be buddies with a single free account at a time, and there would be a cooldown after breaking the bond before the VIP could make another free account (or that same account) their buddy.
This is just a general framework I thought up and I would love to hear suggestions and improvements. I want to see a system that can't be exploited by RMT spammers but increases the QOL for free players while still encouraging them to spend some money on the game.
