Archery & Trick Arrow
Defender offers some higher numbers for defenses and debuffs I believe. I would open mids up and pull them up side by side to compare the powers.
I have a defender one that can solo 4/8 settings. Range defense cap hover then I went for recharge to get Oil slick up as much as I can.. Great fun build.

The Defender seemed like the better idea to me, yeah, but I've been known to have some pretty wrongheaded ideas. Then again, I'm generally not a big fan of the Scourge mechanic from my time with a Corruptor to begin with, so it was worth checkin'. I find those sorts of mechanics more interesting in games where other powers and abilities or AI alter at low health levels.
It really all boils down to do you want access to oil slick or rain of arrows first. Defenders do better debuff numbers and have early access to Oil Slick, while Corruptor will have earlier access to Rain of Arrows and do slightly more damage, but it's pretty close solo. Corruptor will also have a waster power by being forced into taking the immob, which is mostly useless outside of AV fights.
It's easier for a defender to IO softcap to ranged due to higher numbers for leadership pool powers.
As to which is better... hell if I know.
Are they a good combo? Yes. Archery is good. Trick Arrow is good. The combo eliminates redraw, but Archery only includes one power, Blazing Arrow, to light the Oil Slick (which is, IMO, the best power Defenders get). My favourite part of the set is its autonomy. It doesn't need to target enemies or allies, it just opens up and turns the battlefield into a roiling mass of hellfire and carnage.
From a numbers standpoint it's good, not great, but it is fun and that's the important part.

This was the one and only defender i've ever ran all the way up to 50. Unlike plainguy, i couldn't really solo worth a plug f$#@...but in a team he was Hades with a bow. Course, I never IO'd him out, either, which is probably why.
The debuffs he brought, while not as big as the other "they can do it better" powersets, were still quite strong and noticible. I was on more than one team that first went "YAY! We got a healer!" "Nope...sorry...Trick Arrow/Archery." "OMG...TA Sucks!"
Several melted mobs later...
"Man..these guys are going down FAST! They weren't this easy before." "Yeah...that would be me debuffing the snot out of them." "TA ROCKS!"
<cue warm and fuzzies>
And this was before i got RoA or even Oil Slick. After getting those...it was all downhill from there....for stuff that was on the other end of my bow. OS Arrow, slotted for damage and lit...is Burn patch on steroids. HUGE radius and very respectable damage all on it's lonesome. You tack on Disruption Arrow, and Acid Arrow...and you've got yourself a world of slippery, burning hurt. Add in any other arrows for flavor...and if the mob AI could truly, emotionally hate you...they would.
A couple of good APP's that go nicely with this combo
Power Mastery...if for no other reason than Power Build Up. Some debuff buffing...but also that sweet sweet +damage to stack with Aim....and Disruption Arrow...and Acid Arrow...
Psychic Master, i found worked pretty good too. Mass Hypnosis is a beautiful power on a Trick Archer. Depending on what you're fighting, you can put a group to sleep, debuff the crap outta them (which is most everything except oil slick and acid arrow, because of the KD and Damage respectively), the devastate. Works on most everything, unless is something that can fire back while mezzed (ie has the npc equivalent of a blaster's Defiance.)

Someone say something funny.
That'll do, pig. That'll do.
I tried it both ways and enjoyed the Corrupter much more than the Defender. That was the only Corr that I've gotten to 50.
@Joshua.
Lately I've been considering a Fire/TA Corruptor, but I think the maniacal laughter from using Rain of Fire with Oil Slick would likely upset the wife.
Is this powerset combo better as Corruptor or Defender? Is it any good at all?
