so I just got my shiny new electric/time controller to 50, a ride I highly recommend to everybody I might add. and now my goal of trying out new set has brought me to the stalker. I've narrowed my choice is down to dark or spines. here is where my problem lies, I like single target I like aoe,I like team and I like solo. I do not want electric I have one to 50 already as a scrapper. concept wise I can make them both work , if soloing and teaming were 50/50 what would you choose? I am writing from my phone so excuse the grammatical errors in poor punctuation

I should add that I do have experience with stalkers. A nin/nin to 50.

*tumbleweed rolling by*

In all serious perhaps both are not a good option? I have read dark is quite good...I shall try that I suppose.

I wouldn't say Spines has any particular synergy, but it would work fine. Dark Melee works good with just about anything if you don't mind the lack of AoE. For me that's enough to avoid it. I tried it once and it was amazing against hard targets, but ultimately that Stalker got banished when we had free server transfers.

Hmmmm, so if I want solid aoe and single target....its electric isn't It?

Electric/ is a pretty sexy beast when it comes to aoe goodness. I have also played Spines/ and it has decent aoe applications, but I just enjoyed Electric/ more. I dont know how well Street Justice/ stands on the aoe front...

I was with you just a few weeks ago. I was considering rolling a dark/ice stalker cause all the heals makes it seem very survivable, but besides heal and midnight grasp not much else going for it. And has one annoying cone attack that i really don't care for. But I got to talking to a fellow stalker friend online and he convinced me to go the energy route or electric. I decided to go to energy melee, because it looks better (concept wise) to go with ice. Zero AoE, but very nice ST damage.

I made a build on mids but he has since been tweaked a bit and has some nice defense.

Interesting. I never thought of.energy melee and with coloring one could make it watery. So concept it works. What level are you at now? What's in like in practice. I will roll one tonight as 1-20 these days is pretty quick but am curious about the higher levels.

He's 50 and i'm fiddling with the io's right now. But he is softcap with s/l/e/n and 41% with melee. I even went as far to go get leviathon for him. He isn't the most survivable stalker i have had; it requires a little strategy. But I will say he is my most fun stalker to play as.

But he has little to no resistance besides cold (which is capped). So he can dodge a lot but when he gets hit it kinda hurts.

I don't have anything to add to the conversation except to say that playing my Spines/Willpower Scrapper to 50 was great fun (but you're talking about a Stalker, so that doesn't really help you).

Basically I just wanted to chime in with: GRATS ON 50!!!

Thanks. I have 3 stalkers, all at 50. /elect, /wil/ and ice. I would probably rank my willpower as best for survivablilty. Good very defense, resistance and he is capped for hp without any powers. But i haven't really finished my /elect stalker yet though. But from my standpoint now he seems to have a lot of potential when finished. I'll let you know if i finish him within the next week or so.

Yes gratz on your next 50!!

So I am assuming your en/ice stalker is chock full of kinetic combats....is ther a cheaper way to soft cap??....I just do not think I will have the cash for that many and the next set in line that does s/l defense(I forget the name) just doesn't seem to pack the same punch no matter how many times I stare at Mid's...

Edit: Smashing Haymaker is what I was thinking of

no kinetic combat, but lots of touch of death.

If power coloring and concept are the most important piece behind the toon, I think you can make spines look like ice extentensions/projectiles also (crystal option I think?).

Actually concept is important but I rolled an energy/ice last night to 23 and had more fun thenthe spines I tried so far.

I do not know why i never thought of ToD. I have at least 4 sets spread through old alts as well as the steadfast and the LoTG. So how does this build look? Ignore the order of things....I level by feel but this would be the ultimate result.

Just off the top of my head here; you have 8 toggle powers on there, 1 slot in stamina and 1 slot in energy absorption. You need some sort of endurance going on there. And I was playing around on mids last night and realized that ToD made my s/l go up 20% past cap(which is nice going against -def enemies, but still). And you need Achilles heel chance for -res for water spout, its just much better that way. Here is my build I have so far and it is doing quite well.

Thanks for the build info/advice. I am a bit confused but also am new to energy melee, but why no energy transfer? is it due to stalker low health? Is it THAT bad an idea? It looks like great damage.

Posted

Its a nice move and i'm not that worried about the hp loss. It's just a personal choice really. Energy punch is fast and recharges faster so i'd rather stick with that. Also, since i have energy absorption i don't have to get cardio now (because without it the build becomes an endurance hog) and go with musculature or spiritual. You shouldn't need nerve die to crushing impact's bonus of accuracy and energy melee is kinda lacking recharge. Unless you have enough recharge from LoTG.

Posted

Just to add: if i had enough left over slots i probably whould have gotten energy transfer. So, if you want it i say go for it. But i would suggest going with spiritual for your incarnate because your chain of attacks is going to be slow, even with recharge from io's.

Cool...and thanks for all your help

Unless they took away the slows in Spines when they gave it to stalkers it should synergize just fine.

This is also assuming that stalkers kept Chilling Embrace. If they did, the slows from Spines and Chilling Embrace should stack decently and slow down return fire after yuo hop into a mob and fire off Spine Burst.

Plus the crystal spines could easily be recolored to look like shards of ice.

I'm actually going to roll up one of these when I get home from work today, see how it goes. Planning on playing it very scrappy after I get it softcapped, and more of a hit and fade style until then.

Hey, Im wondering if anyone has had any good experience with Street Justice/Ice at all? If so could they post their build?

Personally I am having a blast with StJ/Ice.
I am only 38 (love Icy Bastion) but it has been a fun ride.
