I no longer like my Trollers!
While I would like more dps, I would never trade in my controller for a dominater. I have two major reasons for this. The first, Illusion is not an option for dominater. I play illusion for superior invisibility. The only other subsets that give me this option are stalker (which doesn't really impress me) or the arachnos spider, which as a fortunata, I really do enjoy. That is a topic for another day though.
The second reason, is that none of the blaster secondaries are superior to kinetics. I have ways to do damage. maybe not as much, however with retribution, I do have a nuke every minute and a half. If thats down, I can run into the center of an 8 person mob set, total invis like, cast flash, my aoe hold, now all my damage is doubled, fulcrums shift, and the my psi tornado, thats 24x2 dmg every tick for ten seconds, about a 480 pt dot over ten seconds, with soft control. Meanwhile my perma phantom armies and my phantasms go to work, after ten seconds all the minions are dead, and I start chaining blind/spectral wounds/darkwood wand, all for times two damage. And here is the kicker, i start running low on endurance, cast a transference. Thats unlimited endurance.
So riddle me this? Someone said, the best debuffed mob is a dead mob, ok so what is a blaster without a heal, and no endurance? A self debuffed mob? Dead?
And in groups, I'll put a tank in god mode. A 500 pts heal every 5 seconds, 100 pts end every 15 seconds, fulcrums shift every 15 seconds. Toss in an aoe speedboost. Now what exactly is that dominater throwing on the table?
For that matter, I can solo av's behind my pets without using a single inspiration. My armies don't take damage, I've got a big heal, and unlimited endurance. Yeah, I guess your right tho, controllers suck...
Should add, I have a 48 kin defender. I didn't like it. The weakness of kinetics is that it has no damage mitigation. The end result is that the blaster/kin combo is very weak in solo play. It also lacks any status resist. A controller has status resist with iw, and they are very good at damage mitigation, so the two classes really compliment one another.
/doesn't agree with the OP.
If I want control and damage, I roll Dom.
If I want control and buff/debuff, I roll Controller.
I still like them both - and am *quite* happy I can roll either on either side now.
so are you from Memphis bill? Just wondering, been out here for 5 years, (on halloween). I live out in Graceland.
I haven't really found a dom build I like. Now I love the fort, it gives me stealth, a backstab, good melee, good range, good crowd control, and a nuke, with max defense. I haven't incarnated it out yet, I've been away for years, and i'm pimping out my conroller atm, probably another month or two before i have all the purples I want, 32 of them.
At any rate, with the incarnate slots, I'm almost the ultimate in control/buff/debuf
Control
Holds. that was easy, Blind/flash
Confuse, I 2 slotted for contagious confusion for the aoe effect
Fear: Spectral terror is one of the best soft controls in game, 1 slot
KB: Psi tornado is great soft control, I don't even use pets in groups
Disorient: Pyro, w/ spirit 33% bonus, I stun bosses every time
Buff/debuf
Haste/slow: speedboost, slow movement
Resist/dmg: siphon power/fulcrum shift
Def: paralytic, 75% chance to lower def w/ every hit/ 2 minute barrier
End: Transference/speedboost
Heal: Transfusion
You're not alone, controllers used to be my favorite too but for the most part I don't play them. Too many mobs that are immune to control. They're also the one AT that, depending on the power-sets involved, can have both their primary and secondary rendered largely useless when teaming. More damage is always useful; my fire/kin does well, but I might as well be reading a book most of the time on my earth/emp.
@Oblivion Herald
I've tried to like Controllers; and I do like the control aspect of it... but they lack the potential attack chain that I was used to on my Corrs, Brutes and even my (set it and forget it) MMs.
That's why I've mainly stuck with /Storm as a secondary.
However, I'm getting burnt out on always using /Storm (a Corr WB/Storm will most likely be my last); so I'm looking to get back into Doms (with trepidation after leveling an Ice/Ice) and Brutes; with a peek here and there at Stalkers.
Doms still have the control I like plus damage.
Brutes provide damage and (for the most part) self-sufficient survivability.
Corrs... if it weren't for Scourge...
Apparently, I play "City of Shakespeare"

Yogi, if you want an attack chain on a controller, go with Mind or Grav. Pair Mind up with /Dark if you want a pet, or Kin if you want the extra damage =)
-STEELE =)
Allied to all sides so that no matter what, I'll come out on top!
Oh, and Crimson demands you play this arc-> Twisted Knives (MA Arc #397769)

Hi all,
Yes... I picked Gravity/Dark as my latest Troller, and to be honest I am finding it to be a blast. Infact I am finding the damage great, and with the new Gravity changes, and containment, I am finding it kills stuff solo, quicker than my dominators can. Now bear in mind I am talking purely single target.
However with this combo I get 2 pets. A controller pet (Singy), who holds, lifts and imobilizes anything that moves, and a healer/Debuffer (Fluffy), who also AE (cone) imobilizes setting up containment nicely. With the -to hit debuffs ontop of my defence cap, plus my control and the pets controls, also my personal heal and fluffy's heal.... things are pretty safe.
Add in the -30% Res debuff, and Seismic Smash and Fissure from the epics, and your single target chain from gravity, and your damage can be pretty nice too.
I have also found this combo to be very easy to "IO set" out. Infact with no purples, I can still get Range and S + L both to the defence cap, and have perma hasten and the relevant Global recharge that comes with it. This means that I have an attack chain as powerful as most dominators (not as varied admittedly), but with debuffs and heals too. It does lack a little in AOE damage tho to be fair, but solo that is not an issue, and on teams I spend all my time debuffing and Healing, so its not too much of an issue. If I really get envious, I can allways fissure the pack just too see some orange numbers:P
This toon alone has made it hard to go back and play my dominators again, although I must admit, I have allways prefered the varied playstyle of the Troller anyway.....
Holy necroposts, Batman.

While you probably won't see this, try running a plant/storm controller and see if that fits you. It is the perfect mesh of control and damage. And you can choose either or. If controls are pretty much handled I normally take Seeds of Confusion out of my attack chain and substitute another power in for more damage. It is a really versatile playstyle, and is fun even at low levels. However, to truly get the most out of a plant/storm (Which I guess is true of any powersets but some more than others) fully purpled with incarnates you never have to worry about your endurance or recharge. So maybe rolling one will change your mind, or try any AoE damage based control set and roll with /storm like either Fire, Earth (For more lockdown and control), or even dark.
Greetings everyone,
We would like to kindly remind you all to not resurrect dead threads, however we encourage you to start new threads for such topics.
If necessary, please link to the previous thread.
Thanks for your understanding on this matter.

I just love how interesting and varied controllers are. You could make 5 controllers and have more play variety than if you made five different characters with other archtypes.
