What to do with enhancement boosters?

I've found the boosters quite handy for nudging defences to softcap thus reducing having to sacrifice other elements of a build. Boosting recharge IOs has also saved on having to purchase a purple set to achieve perma-hasten. I've also found them very useful for boosting the accuracy in some melee powers where I use the Kinetic Combat set + a Crushing Impact Acc/Dam/End IO - boosting the CI IO and the KC Acc/Dam x5. And then there's the little endurance, HP and regen boosts that can help out a character's survivability.

#1 buy a level 53 (very hard to find)
#2 buy a level 52 and combine with a level 50 (slightly easier) = 52+
#3 Buy a level 51 and combine twice with level 50s (ends up being harder than #2) = 51++
This is exactly the same as for level 53 SOs. The difference is that there is a ready source of 53 SOs and level 51 or higher HOs haven't dropped since before i10 (but I forget how much before). so there is a very limited supply getting smaller all the time.
Once combined, you can' uncombine them, and they can never again be traded. So eventually we will run out completely and the 50++ will be the best available.

I'll ask on this what seems to be the 'go-to' thread for all things enhancement booster;
I am getting mixed results in-game asking about this; but when I buy on the Paragon Market, points on some 90 enhancement boosters for real-world money (£10.93 for 1800 points I think in my case), could somebody please tell me, if I were to let my subscription drop to the F2P level - I've heard that these enhancement boosters stop working!, is this true?.
Because I'll be honest here, gating rewards, TFs, functionality or the ability to earn Incarnate salvage through the incarnate system is one thing, but taking away functionality on going F2P that I have paid real-world money for is quite different.
Please could somebody confirm whether or not this is true before I spend further on enhancement boosters. Thanks.
This is just a guess.
If you let your sub lapse and go Premium (the middle ground between totally free never spent a thing and Active Subscriber-VIP) then your access to various game features will be restricted based on the number of Paragon Reward Tokens you have slotted in the Paragin Rewards Tree.
Any access to Invention IO's is one of the things that may STOP. To have free lifetime access to the Invention system you must have a completed Tier 7 in the Paragon Rewards Program. If your access to invention origin enhancers ends then those that are boosted won't work either. Returning players have found this a rude shock indeed if they were not long term vets. Tier 7 is a long way up the tree.
Good news is the point cost to buy a 1 month license to for access to the IO system is about 2 bucks or less depending on how you buy points.
However your question raises the issue of whether the new Boosters are considered a part of the overall IO system or are treated seperately. I would GUESS that they will function anytime you have IO access but you should probably email Customer Service for a definitive answer.

Yep, that's what I did as well. I claimed just as many boosters as I needed for each power as I boosted stuff in it.
