Suggest a scrapper

I'm wanting to give Scrapping another go but I'm unsure what set to choose.

A quick rundown.

My 1st scrapper was DM/Regen. I love this guy! From the 1st moment Smite hit at level 2 this guy has felt powerful. Even with only 4 main attacks he's always been a beast.

But, Regen as you know, requires you to be paying attention constantly. I decided I wanted to roll up a more robust Scrapper so...

Over the years I've tried;
Claws/Regen
Broadsword/WP
Kat/SR
Kat/WP
Elec/Elec
Kin/SR

All of them stalled around the mid 20's though, as they just felt very weak compared to my DM. Since I mainly play Blasters I love extreme damage. Claws was the worst, I felt like I was slashing air with all the damage I was doing at 26 with fresh SO's. Electric seemed promising but just wasn't providing that same 'OOmmpf' that I got from DM.

So...

In your expert opinions, Is there a set/combo I haven't tried but would fit my style? Should I stick with one of the above and focus on IO's?

I was debating rolling up a War Mace/? since I've heard it hits like a mack truck but I'd also like suggestions on the best pairing, if that is the consensus on a set I'd enjoy.

Thanks for the assistance!

DM/WP? If you're willing to play another DM, WP should give you a totally different experience from /Regen, since it's all toggles/passives (plus the T9). Will Power is also an extremely survivable secondary, especially combined with a high-survivability primary like Dark (woo for -tohit, fear, and +heal!).

Of course, if you're wanting big red numbers... There's always Fire

If I were to roll a mace guy I would try shield. First, they just seem to be "right" together, but I also guess it would be a powerful combo.

I have a DM/WP toon and my only concern has been the need for additional AoE attacks. I took blaze epic to help with that problem and it's been fantastic for damage. My only problem has been that it does not fit my concept too well. Now I'm looking into Spring Attack from the jumping power pool to see if that fixes both problems (AOE and concept).

Taking DM/WP would work great for a brute too. You would have higher HP which works great with you Siphon Life. You would also have access to Gloom and Dark Obliteration, two powers I wish I could add into my arsenal. Soul Drain works better on scrappers I believe and I hate chasing fury, so there that tradeoff. If I were to start a DM/WP I would have a hard choice between the two archetypes.

I know a few people who love the brute version of DM/FA and I can understand why! These two power sets just feed off of each other.

There are so many options, so the choice is hard. I’m now playing a KM/EngA with a dark concept and enjoying him.

Good luck with your new scrapper, whatever the combo!

Some of those sets depend on how far you played them. Kat, BS, and Kin all get their highest ST damage at 26 and 32. The weapon sets will deal with resistance issues even if I never found it to be all that bad. Elec simply isn't a ST based set, so that might be a factor there in terms of oomph. It's great for mass carnage though. Again, if you stopped in the 20s, then you missed on getting it's signature power. Kin has the perception of the damage per animation time being off when it isn't.

Fire brings the damage, but it's highly DoT based so it's not really oomph based, but it's effective. Outside of it, you might just want to take a weapon set and level it to where it gets its big hitters and then judge it. Going /shield helps any set that can pair with it in the oomph department.

I still have them so that's an option. (I rarely delete anything)

My Broadsword/WP is sitting at level 22 I think, so I may just keep chugging with him.
Got a Kat/SR at 22 as well.

Still considering rolling a War Mace/Invul though.

The sheer smash! factor and fun on WM/SD cannot be overstated.

I was running the Cim wall yesterday and Shatter crit for 417+417 on lvl 52 cimmies. I say cimmies in plural because a bunch of them were caught in the Shatter cone, as always. Crowd Control then flattened them.

The smashgasm of Shatter (with -RES), Crowd Control, Whirling Mace and Shield Charge must be experienced first-hand.

Sure, WM may not have the extreme dps of other sets (DM, Claws), but I'm hella enjoying it

Claw/WP seems like it'd be pretty awesome.

I'm working on a build right now that'd have around 70-74 hp/sec with one target on rise to the challenge, soft capped s/l, and aid self working in for an active healing ability. There's enough recharge that hasten is only down for a few seconds and spin is on a 4.25 second recharge.

The regen hits around 125 hp/sec with a fully saturated RTC. Along with 50% s/l resistance, I think survivability is through the roof.

The only issue I think I have with the build is that the overall accuracy seems pretty low at 112.5% (Not sure how that translates into being able to hit even con to +4's though) figure that it is compensated a little bit by follow up which pushes it up to 127.4% and to 142.4% double stacked, which is fairly easy to maintain once the build is fleshed out.

Worth a go, I think.

I'll second Granite's suggestion of WM/Shield. SMASH tastic,

Also try WM/Fire. I would love to see a crit Shatter boosted by Build Up and Fiery Embrace.

Actually it would be the Clobber crit after Shatter applied the 20% - RES from the Fury of Gladiator Proc. Now *that* would be drool-tastic!

Updating that I indeed went with WM/Shield and am loving it!

It's my new favorite at the moment! Has the powerful feel I was missing in other sets.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Have a few questions about my WM/Shield and this threads still new enough I didn't see the need to make another.

I'm heading into the 20's with him and can't believe how smashtastic he is! While I was replacing my dead DO's at 17 I decided this guy deserved better. This is one of those rare times for me that everything comes together so well. Concept, name, costume, powercombo, without even trying. That's how I know this is one of the rare ones I'll probably make it to 50 with.

(I have terminal altitis and spend most of my time in the 1-30 range, so I've never focused on IO's)

This guy deserves better than having to replace aging SO's. I decked him out with standard dam, acc and def IO's and picked up a -KB.
Then I filled 2 slots in Stamina with standard IO's but I paused before placing the 3rd one. The only problem this guy has so far is endurance issues. I've got endred in the toggles but with Hasten already in the build...

My question is; I looked at picking up a Perf Shift proc, but I've never bought one before so I didn't want to blow 100 million on something that would be of minimal benefit. Will the Perf Shifter proc make an impact on my drain?

Also, what other 'goodies' should I look into picking up at 20? I always say I'll wait til 30 to IO but then I never end up playing most toons past that. Are there any procs that work below 30 like the -res or something I should be looking at?

Thanks again!

The Performance Shifter proc, without accolades, averages out to .2 end/sec. An endmod SO in Stamina, without ED, is .14 end/sec. So it's not a big improvement over an SO, but if you already have 3 endmods in Stamina, the proc lets you get even more out of it.

However, if you care enough to do it, frankenslotting your attacks will improve your endurance efficiency much more than an extra slot in Stamina.
If you do tip missions and/or the SSA for A-merits, a level 20 Miracle unique is also a great investment.

I always invest in Perf Proc, Miracle Proc, and Numina Proc. I typically buy these at min level with A-merits before I even create the character. Kismet +tohit, is another good early pic.

Non-set Frankenslotting your attacks first, toggles second, will make a huge difference.
Set slotting would be third, but I'd wait for at least level 32 to start that.
