Working up a crab build. I'm going for the Venom->Arctic Breath-> Bile Spray chain ultimately. The defenses look good and with hover on I'm capped to Melee as well as Ranged. Can anybody spot anything glaringly wrong or a V8 moment where I could do something outrageously intelligent?

I would take a real movement power like Super Jump. Movement powers are one of the things that make this game fun, and I would not give that up for any extra fraction of DPS or Recharge.

I'm not really sure Hover is the power I would choose for lining up optimal cone attacks either. Other than that, I would say it holds together pretty well.

Two suggestions:

1) Drop Hover for Combat Jumping, and only use 2 slots. Take the flight enhancement and put it in Hasten, which brings you 3 seconds from perma. (You can get vertical movement cheap at 10k inf per flight pack)

2) Drop Aim and pick up Wolf spider armor. The extra resist won't do you any good, but the extra mez protection means you are the only character in the game who can stand next to Romulus when he rez's without needing any pink cookies. (added bonus, you can slot another knock back proc in there too).

3) (I know I said 2 but...) You can take the extra slot from Aim and put it in Venom Grenade. The Ragnarok proc for knockdown is relatively cheap and works wonders in there.

I like the Combat Jumping idea a lot. I like having hover, but this might be worth it. I'm on the fence about the Wolf armor: do you find yourself needing the extra mez protect? I don't really need the "to hit", but I like the extra damage in Aim.

I just happen to have a Ragnarok knockdown in my base and that venom grenade suggestion is muy sexio.

Between Mental Training, Sprint, and Ninja Run, I'm okay not taking a traditional travel power (supplemented by the jet pack for those hard-to-reach nuisances. ) it only bothers me in Nerva or IP but I can tough those out.

Thank you for the suggestions! Any others?

I never take travel powers these days.

My crab doesn't have wolf armor and Rommie's Nicti don't stun her. It might be her level shift, slotting, or some other accolade. I don't know, but I always just assumed I was 0.1 magnitude higher protection than the stun.

Entirely possible I am wrong, but that is how I remember it. I do like having the 8 pts of knockback protection instead of 4 though.

I was going to respond and say that my Crab never gets stunned by Romulous... but when I thought about it I realized that jumping behind cover when he resurrects is such an ingrained habit that I'm not sure my Crab has ever actually stood there and taken it.

With Crab Spider Armor Upgrade and the Aegis 20% status resistance, I will very rarely see a status effect flash into existance under my status bars, but it always disappears instantly without slowing me down.

I have 8 points of knockback resistance and still very occasionally get knocked down.

If I'm reading the in-game power info correctly, from level 47 onwards Fortification + Crab Armor Upgrade is enough to block Rom's rez-stun (Crab Armor's protection is constant, but Fort scales with level). Certainly from my actual experience, you will never get stunned by Rom at 50 with just those two protecting you.

With regards knockback, 4 points will block the vast majority of kb in the game - but of the few sources of kb it won't block, most still won't be blocked by 8 points. But with high levels of +def the few knockbacks that could breach 4 points will miss most of the time anyway. i.e. I don't think it's worth chasing more than one -kb IO (if you can fit more in without any extra effort/slotting, great, but I'd not compromise anything for them).

Anyway, unless you have a really specific IO build in mind, just about any power pick is better than Wolf Armour for a Crab (tbh I feel similarly about Bane, but there's a bit more wiggle room there).

I did this build prior to Alpha incarnate coming out. I'm Musculature atm I think with him. I will probably rework it and consider Cardiac. He is full Positional defense cap. It uses Artic and bile which are pretty cool powers.

If you notice the regular IOs in Combat Jump and Maneuvers. I guess I could switch out the 2 IOs in Maneuvers and get place 2 LOTG and get a regeneration increase. But If I swapped those 2 out those 2 regular IOs I would loose tenths of a point in defenses just bringing me shy of the defense cap.

The difference beyond some numbers is I went more PBAOE attack. Basically I use super speed with the stealth IO to get me into melee range and let loose. As with many cap toons I can do 4/8 setting with him.

Here's a build I threw together real quick, modified from what my actual build (posted elsewhere) is. Without taking the miniscule +recharge from my planned Ageless path into account, the two disruptors are only twelve seconds from being permanent and you are (just barely) softcapped to all positions as well as unpositional Psi in normal content.

The Shield Wall 3% res can be swapped for another LotG component, it's not that useful on its own in the build and I put it there for the hell of it.

Plainguy, I sorta <3 you right now. I've wanted a general "I'm cool, and can aoe like iron man+Doc Oc COMBINED" mercenary for ages, but...I fail at builds.

...Then you made a build for "AOEs like iron man".

...ergo?
<3
...now I'm gonna go get rocket boots for my hovering crab-pack'd mace-wielding mercenary :P

EDIT: My new problem is finding a sufficiently awesome name that'll work for BOTH the starting redside dude, then the inevitable blueshide shift :P

On the escape part in BAF, we Crabs are the only ones not affected by the 'confuse' that the Lt's dish out. And i heard from several people that if they are near me while i am on door duty, they don't get confused.

Oh, and Rommy in ITF?
My Crab ad WP/SS Tank don't get stunned.

I'm not certain what the magnitude of the Lt confuse is, but fairly sure Crabs aren't the only ones unaffected - other VEATs should be, for starters. Pretty sure Willpower and Shield Defense Scrappers/Brutes/Tanks will be unaffected as well. Storm Summoning chars (any anyone near them) too. Also Controllers/Dominators with the Psionic Mastery pool. And I suspect any AT that takes Leadership > Tactics (that'll be why people tell your Crab they're immune when near you).

Crabs are the only VEAT immune to Romulus' stun though.
