Back from hiatus!
Well, the booster packs themselves are gone and the old store shut down; the content that they were composed of will be available on the Market. Although no doubt there will be various bundles and sales in the future. And yes, it presently exists only in Beta, and even if you got on Beta and bought stuff it's a Beta-only thing of course. Basically, you get Paragon Points by either buying them, or as a monthly stipend if you are a subscriber (or both), and you use them to buy things in the new Paragon Market.
Arc #40529 : The Furies of the Earth
Wow, so it seems like a LOT has changed since last time I played.
I heard from a friend that they've retired all the booster packs and such and they're coming back through something called Paragon Market. Now I've read and googled some, but I can't seem to find where the thing is! Is it only available to the test servers or something? I'd really love to be able to buy some of the cool booster packs. Cheers! |
Now, instead of "packs" of stuff, people will be able to buy "Points" from Paragon directly and use them to make purchases of SPECIFIC items.
People who choose to keep paying subscription become the VIP tier.
People who, at one time, paid, but opted to go free, become the Premium tier and are able to retain a most of the stuff they've already been given.
People who start up new accounts but opt not to pay are the standard tier. They're, in many ways, even more limited than the old trial accounts were. But, at least you're allowed to play for free.

Ah well, any word on when the store comes back online? I really wanna play around with that beast run power
Odds are within a month. The original target release date for Freedom/Issue 21 was Sept 1st which is why they shut down the store the 30th (except for the basic CoH for $10 which includes one month).
I believe there was some showstopper problem with the Mac edition that has to be resolved dealing with the new marketplace.

In some ways the Free accounts are a lot less limited though. You can now play all levels, 1 - 50, and almost all of the "legacy" content. You have access to some of the new content too, esp the new content they just added in Atlas Park and Mercy (new level 1-10 content, yay!).
It's still a tad unclear to me where the line between legacy and new is going to be drawn. It seems that the low level content will be given away, whereas the higher level content (like the new First Ward zone) is going to require a subscription or a specific purchase.

I really want it to launch. I had forgotten they were going to remove the packs myself and when I went to buy the beast pack for my second account I was to late.
