So what about having a private notice describing the theme that goes out to all artists who express interest
and then they submit art directly to the host and then once a month a voting thread
appears with the choices and people pick their favorites.
Something like that?
Also, I might have mentioned it before, and I hope it gets run next year, but I have no plans on running the F-Art contest next year. I'll stick with my other too-many contests.

Poor Chris, the victim of arbitrary enforcement of rules in a fanart competition. Just like..well anyone else that took part in said competition. Your frustration over the rules in both cases was understandable. You lost a guaranteed win based on stupid rules. All that meant though is that you had to make art to go up against someone else, which is what the contest was supposed to be about from the get go.
The mysterious leave of absence last year, where everyone pretty much assumed you were sulking and the last minute request to change the theme because you assumed it was biased in Shia's favor--what can I say? Nobody bought it. As for my role in the whole thing--I didn't vote. I just argued that to win you should actually have to beat the other frontrunner.

As for my track record, I'll take the Pepsi challenge against your art any day of the week. I dropped last year mainly because I was busy and couldn't justify participating. This year I was pretty much burned out and had something of an inkling that things would end like this based on past experience with you. In neither case did I screw anyone else over.

I don't post art here, do livestreams, give notifications about software, etc.
So all of the angst and misinformation but with none of the cool art.

My first post to you (almost two years ago) was a thank you for your paint-over and advice about the
LJ gift art I was doing. My last DA note to you (just a few days back) was a thank you as well.
Are you fishing for compliments or just saying the opposite of what is true to get a rise?

Corrections (sigh) Nobody? You mean to say "you" didn't buy it. Thankfully you don't have to buy it for it to be true.

Can you honestly tell me if one of my best friends had chosen the theme instead you would have sat completely silent with no objection?

The Pepsi challenge was a blind taste test/marketing stunt to try and prove to people that Coke and Pepsi are not the same thing.
It's another glib remark considering the odds are good it would have been you vs. me this year... had you stuck around long enough.
But hey don't that inconvenient truth get in your way.

You were busy. I could borrow a turn of phase and say "nobody is buyin it" here but I don't speak for everyone and certainly can't read your mind.

Tough to say which of the two submissions would win, the styles are so different. I'll argue vehemently with Caemgen and vote with Liz. Sorry if my brevity here does not convey vehemence

It was always my impression that the purpose of the FArt contest was to give artists a reason to push themselves, especially those that were perhaps not as disciplined on their own, and that the contest was never actually about "winning". Thus I've been baffled and saddened by the drama that has occurred over the last two years.
But again, I thank all of the artists who participated for their excellent submissions this year, and perhaps next year we can get it right.

Moreover, everything you submitted was POLISHED work. You didn't submit anything that was obviously unfinished and didn't take shortcuts by incorporating things like stock imagery or screenshots. Obviously some people didn't care about that, but that was something I appreciated about your work. You did everything yourself. Thanks for sharing, it was certainly a winning effort in my book.
