That is not pacifism.

i think passivist is a better term for this. "I'm okay with violence as long as it's not against me and I don't have to inflict it myself."
Eh, the person may not be *okay* with violence, but may have gotten to a point where they accept it.

For instance, on a few servers I've got a "combat medic" Bots/Pain MM. Refuses to let another living being under his or her command (depending on server) harm others. But, having been in a warzone where everything went south, finally accepted modifying their robotic surgical assistants so they could up-power their various laser-based medical tools to defend themselves and eliminate threats.

I'm necroing my own thread. Woot.

---

Just to update, the character I play with this concept of "Buff the team, debuff the enemy, suck at damage output" is called Total Dependent, and has reached 44 in *very* quick succession after being semi-shelved due to Brawling Humiliator's triumphs.

And so far, the reaction hasn't been "Oh, geez, this is awful". The Ice and the Rad seem to help out, along with the Fog, and people seem to be ok with helpin' her level up.

I *did* take two powers of offense, if you will, but they're only the weak beam, and the nuclear throwball. Forget the power names. And they're there for the debuff aspects, but I slotted them for one damage SO. I also throw ice at individual targets to slow them down some more.

I did try to run a mission and... Not. Happening. Totally useless solo.

I'mma get this to 50 yet, provided there are players that are willing to help, and be my 8th 50 before the Dreaded Day happens.

Well... perhaps I was premature about that whole 'signing off' thing... - 11-9-2012

O...kay, a weird forum thing, whereby the post got double posted... That ain't right. *sigh*.

And I can't take the post count off. I hate cheating... this sucks. I guess I'll just have to live with my ill gotten gains, but it is wrong. So wrong. Stupid forum software...

ice has traditionally been seen as a srong control power along with earth and fire. Rad emission has been a strong buff/debuff set for a long time. It's not a pathetic leeching build, but I wouldn't want to solo it either.

By the way my most favorite ice power is Ice Slick, so simple so elegant. Flop! I say! Flop!

Triumphant Defenders Forever
Psylenz FF/Psi, ArticQuark Storm/Rad, Symon BarSisyphus Bots/psn, Max VanSydow Thugs/Dk, Cyclone Symon Bots/stm, Blue Loki Ice/Cd, Widow 46526
HelinCarnate:OMG it is so terrible. I have the option to take 3 more powers but no additional slots. Boo F'ing hoo.

Hmmm,

Earth/Emp "Level 50, check"
Earth/Rad "Level 50, check"
Ice/Sonic "work in progress"

Started to look kind of spooky reading this thread again from the start when part way through the early pages I noticed I had the 3 above characters.

The Ice/Sonic wins hands down for me for slow soloing speed or greatest difference between solo and team ability mostly cause of massive endurance issues. Prior to the pet the Earth's were dreadfully slow to solo due to kill speed but usually wouldn't run out of endurance prior to killing a spawn while set to "heroic". Killing a single minion could run my Ice/Sonic controller dry using just his own powers (thank goodness for Vet powers!). Same general trouble on my Sonic/Dark defender ... Sonic Resonance made for awful endurance issues which in turn kills speed thru a mission. Flip side is that Sonic/Dark was also part of what was undoubtly the strongest set team my group of friends and I ever ran (and I'd bet one of the strongest set of 5 AT's ever running together I've been part of ... including 5 Green Machine Emps)

Doomguide

Edit (with tongue in cheek): Honorable mention to my Elec/Fire blaster ... massive kill ability, utter glass canon. No doubt his kill speed is waaay faster than any of the above. Then there's all that travel time back from the Hospital while running solo, also miles ahead of any of the above Not sure how much he contributes to a team but sheesh is it night and day running with one.

I agree with people paying to play what they want rather than becoming a slave to the team or being some team leaders instant lackey so if I saw a Pacifist concept I can't help but think "why not?". Although I do not like the idea of a pointless floating heal spamming bucket of no use whatsoever. Buffing powers, debuffing powers and the ability to keep purposefully busy without inflicting damage is still acceptable.

He will honor his words; he will definitely carry out his actions. What he promises he will fulfill. He does not care about his bodily self, putting his life and death aside to come forward for another's troubled besiegement. He does not boast about his ability, or shamelessly extol his own virtues. - Sima Qian.

That kind of thing goes out the window when the team is having trouble. Our top end player characters could solo just about everything out there so if you had someone like that on the team it didn't matter. When you had teams of characters that had at best so's and possibly many slots unfilled it was a different story.

Power creep is something that can be classed as either a good thing or a bad thing. Being able to create what we want can also be classed as either a good thing or a bad thing. Someone who expects me to create something that serves their way of thinking is the type of person who deserves a kick in the nads.

Might I suggest that having offensive powers shouldn't be an issue, so long as they are still weaksauce or that your character is still ineffective as a solo player?

I'd like to submit my Dark/Ice/Earth Tank into the mix. Yes, she has a few offensive powers, but seriously, playing solo is a joke for her!

"Oh," you might say, "but she has melee attack, Rylas."

To which I would reply, "Yeah, LOLIce Melee!*"

The thing is, though, that she's basically a Contranker... a Tanktroller... a Contankeroller?

She's perfect for team situations. Fear, stun, slow, immobilize, knockdown. She's got it all! Despite the aggro cap being 17, she's able to crowd control beyond that. Sure, she's not taking direct damage from more than the cap, but she can go beyond that to rescue players from outside aggro. Drop an Ice Patch here, a Quicksand there, and handle the main group with melee mez toggles.

Just don't ask her to kill anything on a time scale shorter than geological.

*I'm not implying Ice Melee CAN'T do damage, but my build does nothing to help it's lower damage numbers.

@Rylas

Kill 'em all. Let XP sort 'em out.
