Something I've been wondering.

With the state of the game as of now, is there a substantial benefit to still having Security Chief missions?

Do they provide a useful function for new players? Or old, or returning players? Would anyone miss them if they're gone?

I was pondering this as I scoured Founders Falls for 40 Crey, which is as many as four tens. I did not manage to come up with an answer.

If they really want to make money from Freedom, they'll have an (expensive) option to remove the security chief missions. They'll make a mint.

They are there so you'll drop them and then not be able to drop the mission you really want to drop.

The only benefit I can think of to running Security Chief missions is that you can't skip them so you HAVE to run them if you want access to any of the older story arcs.

If you're talking about a benefit to the actual game, then no, they don't have one. They never have. From he beginning of time, Security Chief missions have been a waste of time, a forced kludge to twist people's arms to explore the zones and in so doing fill the standard MMO quota of "Kill X number of Y in area Z." These things were outdated and deprecated from the moment they were first put into the game, and these days serve only to waste a mission drop, and to piss you off when you accidentally drop the "Talk to Security Chief" part and then can't drop the hunt.

If Security Chief missions disappeared one night while I was sleeping, I will not miss them one bit.

I've left whole contacts behind because they were offering Security Chief missions. I don't care if they have their whole story arc to offer yet, I'll leave them behind and go to a new contact and not waste my mission drop. If I really want that story arc, that's what Ouroborus is for.

Haha, well said.

They should remove the “Talk to Security Chief” missions from the regular contacts & repurpose the Security Chiefs to be like Meg Mason & Borea, giving an endless choice of one hunting mission & one indoor mission.

Players who enjoy doing hunting missions would still have the option of doing them & players who don’t like them can avoid it.

Perhaps it could even be used as an alternative to the Newspaper/Police Radio missions & give you the option of choosing a new contact after completing a number of missions.

I like hunting missions. Outside of the Peregrine ones, never understood the big distaste for them.

The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.

Sadly, that won't help you, because if one contact offers you a Security Chief mission, they ALL will, at least the ones from the old contact chain. You can always bypass them by using post I6 contacts, but you're bypassing five to six characters at a time.

Because many of the security hunting missions send you into group zones against enemies that you can't solo (kill CoT in Perez before you get status protection and they are found in groups of 10) or the enemies are scarce in the zone or subzone and you spend more time flying/jumping around looking for spawns or waiting on respawns than hunting. (Clocks in Steel, Council in Steel now that more than half of them are 5th which don't count, or 50 Malta in Peregrine.) I also hate the sub-zone specific hunting missions. That Fir Bolg didn't count because it ran over the invisible zone barrier? Really?

Hunting missions are fine if they redesigned them with the following rules:

~ Contacts that offer hunting missions should offer them as only one of the mission choices and not block you out of other missions.
~ If I don't want to do the security hunt mission from my Joe contact, then I definitely don't want the same mission to also jam Fred and Mary contacts. That just p***es me off.
~ Only choose enemy groups that appear with great frequency in the area.
~ Take away zone and subzone restrictions for defeating enemies.
~ If you update the spawns in the area for story reasons and replace most of the Council spawns with 5th, then update the hunting missions at the same time to include both or have lots of pure groups left to hunt.
~ Don't give solo arcs hunts in zones that spawn groups meant for larger groups of heroes/villains while I am still low level.

Considering what they just did to Atlas Park and Galaxy City, I see no justifiable reason why the Security Chief should be exempt from a revamp. It's been a pointless annoyance since the dawn of the game. IMO, it's only reason for existence was to pad out the game content at a time when content was thin and street-sweeping was imagined to be the most important source of XP instead of the least important.

Down with the Security Chief!

Maybe the revamp could be that when you get the mission to see the Security Chief, when you show up he's face down and dead with cops and forensic guys standing around. That leads into the next mission where you look for the killer...

It was me. I did it. I have no regrets, and you should probably check on the "Security Chiefs" in all the other zones, too. Next up, Merit Stores. It's going to be a crime...of fashion.

No, and they never did. On the other hand, I can see the point in "Go talk to the Hero Corps Rep" (AKA the guy to change your difficulty settings). If you never get sent to them, you might not be aware they exist.
