So how exactly are you supposed to get the badge for defeating Caleb?

When 1, the big ectoplasmic pancake spawns but you spend the entire night cycle flying around trying to find him but fail to somehow miss the giant ghost thing, and 2, you spend the next day cycle beating the crap of out lesser ghosts, only when nightime rolls around, he doesn't spawn. We didn't even get the spawn message. The first spawn message was what drew me to the zone in the first place and I spent a good 15 minutes flying around at the very tippy top of the map looking for the guy.

This is the second time I've tried to take on Caleb and failed outright to have him be FINDABLE once we got him to spawn.

It's REALLY getting annoying.

Getting him to spawn is so time consuming in and of itself, having to play hide and seek with him is downright obnoxious.

from what i know of caleb, he has some stealth on him so have to be within about 100 ft of him to even see him unless you have very good perception

he does not immediatly despawn upon daylight and can be flying around almost anywhere in nerva, once hes done flying he will go to seemingly random spots and just camp out (this is likely the case since he didnt despawn), when he does spawn he is usually about 100 ft in the air (coupled with the stealth its a bad combination) plus he also moves fairly fast too

i personally feel that the caleb GM spawnings and stuff need to be more standardized (put on a timer or something so hes up more consistently and have more designated spawn/end spots like the ghost of scrapyard)

I recently had issues with Caleb in terms of just plain not being able to find the thing, so what I did was:

1. Wait for the next server reset.

2. Go to Nerva.

3. Wait for the day cycle.

4. Kill the crap out of the spectrals.

5. At nightfall, pop a bunch of yellows and then start making circles around the island, at about the 100 - 200 foot levels.

6. Caleb seems to do orbits of some kind, if you spot him in a particular spot, he will eventually leave but also eventually return. Rather than constantly follow him around, I found a decent spot where I knew he lingered, dropped a waypoint on my map, and then asked for help on global channels. So long as I had +perception going, I could wait there and he kept coming back every five to ten minutes. However, there are reports he doesn't always do this, I just know he did it when I went after him.

He's hard to spot, but not that hard to kill. Three or four good damage dealers with some debuffs in there will be able to take him out.

Also, when in doubt, cheat. Wait for server reset, spawn him by killing spectrals, and then use demorecord to find him.

Don't really want to reinvent the wheel, but there are a lot of threads in this forum with great advice on how to find him once he's spawned, where people have successfully looked, etc. It's obviously a situation that people encounter quite a bit, as it comes up so regularly, so I recommend searching for the various threads, giving them a read and then trying to get a team together. Hopefully you'll find some of the advice worthwhile and will be successful. (Arcana's post, for example, is full of win as usual.)

Best of luck!

I have seen a heap of different methods on how to get him. Have tried them all..and have still only seen him TWICE IN FOUR years. The spawning is clearly totally buggy, and it seems to be more luck than anything else.

i wish he just had more uptime, i made my ill/cold rogue so i could actually hunt more GMs since blueside has twice the number of GMs with pretty much all of them being on timer spawns

redside has 4 GMs, but only 1 of them is regularly up (scrapyard if you havent guessed lol)

deathsurge is up every now and then (he gets killed pretty quick)

caleb is rare as heck and should have his spawning/pathing changed

and the arachnos flier is on a long timer but once spawned is only around for about 20 min and is just overall easier to get the badge for in an STF

Caleb will never de-spawn. Once you get the message that he has spawned he will be in Nerva until 1) Someone defeats him or 2) The server is reset. So, if you get the message and don't find him, you do not need to go back and kill more ghosts. If you kill ghosts all day and do not get the message it means he was already there in the first place.

When hunting Caleb after he spawns, set up a bind or macro to target the ghosts that are following him (assuming that no one has already take out all the ghosts) and don't try to target Caleb himself. He moves too quickly and has too much stealth for him to stay targeted unless you happen to be almost on top of him. So target a Spectral Daemon. You can follow them until you get close enough to Caleb to maintain a target and follow him instead.

When I was looking for him with my main; we had about 8-16 people looking for him.

Someone finally found him just a tad NW of the Thorn Isle...he was in the water probably about 50-100 yards from the island/shore.

Setting up a macro/bind helps too.

I brought my scrapper villain side to work on the villain badges.
Does running Focus Acc give enough perception to find him or do you still need yellows?

im not 100% sure, i need to look at how much stealth radius his power grants (ill prolly get back to this thread with that later today, just woke up lol)

edit: looking at calebs stats in AE it does not appear that he has any kind of stealth ability (stealth radius is marked as 0 ft. another interesting thing is that he has a fairly fast fly speed, around 37.3 MPH, i did a few tests to see how far i could see him and i could see him from around 55-58 yds, past 58 yards is when he fades our of view (i cant see him but i can still tab target him), i think hes just very hard to spot at night because hes somewhat dark colored and blends in very well and has a fairly fast fly speed (double checked on his powers and he doesnt appear to have any stealth powers, so im guessing hes just hard to find due to blending in with the background too well)

He seemed to have stealth when I encountered him, so that's interesting.

But you reminded me of something else I did when looking for him. First, I turned off my own stealth: I want him to see me and attack if nothing else. And two, I used TAB a lot: TAB can target things your own eyes might not spot, and Caleb is TAB-targetable when he gets close enough.

This may or may not help but...if I remember correctly, you may want to check just SW of the Thorn Isle as well (going into/near the other islands near-bye).

Also, if you can, try to get like 4+ others to scout around...never know...he might be flying at the top ceiling level *shrugs*

It is hard and annoying....good luck to you!

Having a LOT of +PERCEPTION is key here. Chew yellows if nothing else.

I am not saying it is impossible (I have killed him 3+ times on various characters), but it IS much harder than any other enemy in the game (stealth or no).

Unless he's inheriting the Spectre's ability to go Ethereal.

I believe that's the case. It's not a stealth power per say, but mimics the Spectral's Ethereal phasing. Since he is essentially a huge Spectral Daemon this makes a ton of sense.
