Ice/Stone Tanker

Greetings,

First time poster in a long time, so please forgive the casual mistakes.

I'm a returning player who is trying to get his Ice/Stone tanker up to snuff. I've seen a few different Ice/* builds but they all vary in different directions on some of the powers.

I also went with fly instead of jumping (character concept). I’m not sure how badly this hurts me as I didn’t take Combat Jumping. Can Hover work here instead? Though with the new issue coming out this might end up being mute. I don’t know?

The powers I’m having the hardest time fleshing out is, Energy Absorption, Chilling Embrace, Tough, Icicles and Tremor.
Of course I’m hoping folks can help me with any other glaring issues.

You've got a decent set-up there, but it could do with a couple of tweaks.

In Stone Fist: drop out the Crushing Impacts for a set of four Kinetic Combat. Alternatively, slot four of Smashing Haymaker in two of your single target attacks. In Tremor, slot three to four Eradication.

Your tanker is hitting the softcap with six targets hit by EA; making the changes I suggest will hit the softcap with one target. That's useful for AVs.

Be sure to stick a Performance Shifter +End in Physical Perfection, and you should be good to go.

Also check out this thread. It is a very recent discussion (already at 2 pages).
I posted an initial build on that thread that was WAY OVER on S/L Def (~52% without EA active).

A new build has been done but I left it at home (am at work atm) but has 48% S/L Def and 46% E/NE Def without using EA.
EA with 1 foe in range adds approx 2.6% to all types except Psi.

The new build has 1 set of Kinetic Combats and only 1 purple set in Fault (and only cause those purples are relatively cheap. Ill be using Stupefy until I get to level 47).

However I dont take SS/SJ/FLy as I have Ninja/Beast Run and JetPacks instead so you'll need to drop something to take Fly. But Hover can be used instead of CJ - it just has a higher End Cost.

You can go with the Flight pool if you take Hover. It offers the same amount of defense that Combat Jumping does but requires a bit more slotting because it's slower than CJ.

Also, don't you have to be on the ground to use Fault?

I've posted in other threads about softcapping Ice/. Your 3 defense toggles (FA, GA, and Weave) are good. Get that 4th piece of Reactive Armor into Tough and take Hover with just the LotG: +Rech IO and you'll be sitting around 42.5%+ After that you just need 2 attack sets. Smersh covered that. Kinetic Combats in Stone Fist and Eradication in a PbAoE. Alternatively you could put Basilisk Gaze into Seismic Smash (4 pieces for the +rech and then 2 common damage IOs).

The idea behind softcapping before using EA is to account for defense debuff and to push you close to the incarnate softcap of 59%. From 45%, a well slotted and saturated EA should push you up to ~56%.

Some minor things. Permafrost doesn't need all those slots. Drop 2 and put your steadfast unique in the base slot. This will allow you to also take a slot from Tough and use it elsewhere. Hibernate doesn't need Recharge enhancement because of NoPhase so slap a Heal IO or a Heal/End IO in there, instead.

Give me a bit and I'll post a rework with some of these changes I've suggested and some other goodies.

Alright. Some things about this build. Softcapped s/l but just shy of it for e/n. Darkest Night will make up for this for the most part. Yes I added it to the build because I just can't NOT recommend it. It's too good to pass up when using Ice/. I left Hover out because of the stone powers that require you to be on the ground so you lost that defense, which I had to make up with set bonuses. Keep in mind that I used level 30 IOs for the sets. If you opt for level 50s your numbers will look better.

If you, for some reason, changed your mind and picked up Hover/CJ (CJ in this case so you don't have to worry about not being on the ground) you'd get that defense and would be able to change slotting in a couple attack to sets that give +rech. However, with 2 FF procs, you probably won't really need the extra recharge from sets.

I also added 2 Membranes to EA. You've got that purple set, so I'm assuming you can afford a couple HOs, too.

With the inclusion of DN, the build becomes a huge endurance hog. Kinda takes using Cardiac in your Alpha slot to make up the difference. You can get away with using Spiritual as EA will recharge faster, but it won't work too well when you take on fewer targets/AVs. So if you go for this type of build with DN, get Cardiac

First off you are over the rule of 5 for your 21.1 HP that both LoTG and the crushing impact is giving you. Second off they keep mentioning u take hover 2 problems with that 1 you need it active for it to work, 2 tremor u need to be on the ground for it to work. Also if you look at mids and add the reg IO end mod it will give u better end rec then the PS+ in your PP. I would switch out your stead fast res/end with another RA. Also I would put more slots in taunt if your going to take it so soon.

Here is my build as it is live..

I know I have some rule of 5 going on with the HP between Luck of the Gambler and Crushing Impact but in all honesty I dont care about that. What is most important to me is that I am very close to the soft cap 44.8 Smashing Lethal and 43.8 Energy/Negative so one application of Energy Absorption handles that.

However they key to this build is that Hoarfrost is very very close to perma ( i think withing a few seconds and definitely perma when hasten is up )

That along with Hibernate allows me to survive a very long time.
