Brutes Vs. Scrappers
DM is better on a scrapper

Fiery Aura is only good for farming, I'm cereal

The DoT can also crit >.> However, the taunting from attacks helps keep mobs from running which is a big problem for Fire Melee Scrappers.
Your character does not have capped defense. Depending on your AT the cap is between 175% - 225%. Your defense is not teal in the combat window, it can go higher. STOP SAYING IT IS CAPPED! The correct term is Soft Cap.
I enjoy playing in Mids. I specialize in Melee Characters, other AT's usually bore me.

DM is better on a scrapper, but you will also be sturdier on the brute. I don't think you look at a Dark/elec and simply say make it a scrapper because of Dark.
At 70 (or even 80) Fury, your DPS would be worse on a DM/WP or DM/Inv brute than on a DM/WP or DM/Inv scrapper.
Scrappers will do better damage than a brute in most cases, just off the fact that their Build up gives a bigger buff (100% vs. 80%), and is calculated from a higher base (1.125 vs. 0.75, IIRC). Soul Drain has the potential to give an even bigger buff, and it lasts longer, so it increases the gap.
However, this is only relevant if you are attempting to absolutely max your damage - I have several Dark Melee brutes, and their damage is nothing to laugh at. My main one is /WP, and the extra HP he gets as a brute make him far more sturdy than an equivalent scrapper would be.
If you want max damage, go scrapper. If you want high damage, pick whichever of the two suits your playstyle best.
@Roderick
Crits happen up front only. DoTs do NOT crit. This is easily seen by checking the Detailed Info. Some powers, especially ones that ARE DoTs, like Midnight Grasp, will have a Crit value that is as large as the up-front damage plus the DoT, but there's only one Crit check per power, ever.

Incinerate seems to work differently tho, it only has DoT but when it crits CoD says it adds the same damage as the total DoT but upfront (oh you kinda said it already, MG when critting does the DoT damage upfront too, I just woke up ).
- 10 * 15.64 Fire damage over 4.60 seconds PvE only
- 156.4 Fire damage (5% chance) If target is a minion
- 156.4 Fire damage (10% chance) If target is not a minion or player
Words to the wise aren't necessary- it's the stupid ones that need them.
"You're right...I forgot...being constantly at or the near the damage cap is a big turn off. Definitely not worth it."
- Vitality
I've got a DM/Invuln scrapper build that I think is almost unkillable. Now... would a brute be more unkillable? How unkillable does one need to be?
Now to be serious, it's not unkillable. but it does pretty much hang out at the top tier of survivability.
I say go for the Scrapper. More damage and you can be so sturdy it's just stupid.
This is just a general question, I know that Firey melee should be chosen for a brute (when secondary is not shield) because fury boosts the DoTs of fire. I am just wondering if this is the case for all pwoers, I was thinking of rolling either a DM/WP or DM/INV scrapper, but would my dps be better on the brute with fury up to around 70?
