Don't chew my head off

You're right Braije, those other MMOs handle PvP radically differently. I may have misread what you and others wanted - that is, open-world PvP instead of confinement to certain areas.

Now, I have had to deal with PvP in here, and was not impressed with the people I encountered, and this was before the 'big nerf' that many PvPers were complaining about. Why didn't I give it another try after that 'big nerf'? Ever heard the expression "One bitten, twice Shy."? I decided to try PvP one evening, and got offered a spot in a 2-on-2 event. When we zoned in, my partner suddenly went AFK and the other team double-teamed me again and again. When we left, I got another tell from my 'partner', asking if I wanted to go again. I told him that I felt I had been set up and that wasn't nice - and not only that, if it had been a new player, it might have caused him or her to decide to leave the game. (Please note that I wasn't rude, rather curt but polite, in my response to him.)

He laughed at me and said that my strategy sucked, which is why I was killed over and over again. Quite frankly, that left a sour taste in my mouth as far as hard-core PvPers in this game.

The other scenario you mentioned, regarding badgers, I've also experienced. I took my first toon, Grey Whisper, into Siren's Call in order to try and obtain the 4 exploration badges there. Now, I was red-side (I bought COV on sale) so a couple of those badges were well into enemy territory for me - especially the Crooked Politician badge. Using Vidiot Maps and Paragonwiki, I went around and collected the other three badges, but that one was giving me trouble. I jumped in to the spot where it was, hoping to just pick it up and then get out of there, but found a number of hero toons droppping attacks on me, even though I was asking for a little help just getting the badge. Upon waking up at the hospital, one player teamed up with me and stood right at the spot of the badge, telling me to open up the minimap to see where he was and to zone in on him. Even with that, as I jumped in again, I was once again bombarded with attacks, but was able to land on the badge marker just as I died.

I woke up in the hospital to see my teammate chew out those other players in Broadcast with "I was just trying to help her get the badge. I hope she got it." (All but one of my toons is female.) I contacted him, thanked him for helping me get that last badge, and then headed out of the zone. After that, the only time I've spent in a PvP zone has been to gain the time-spent-in-zone or day-job badges - oh, and to launch the Warburg rocket to to see it done once.

Also, I never intended to claim that your (PvP gamer) subscription was any less than another (non-PvP gamer) subscription. I'm sorry if I gave that impression.

Of all the things the Devs love, PvP is not one of them.

Since the PvP base is so small, perhaps there should be a global PvP server where they can all meet. . .

Personally I have little use for PvP, there is just no appeal to it for me. A full blown FFA might be fun on rare occasion though.

I believe - well, I hope - one of the advantages of CoH:F is going to be that many of the the "minigames" - PVP, Architect, Base-Building, and I'm sure there's others* - will get attention.

I don't PVP, but three of the people I've tried to get into City of Heroes have had, "How's the PVP?" as one of their first questions.

* - Also, badgers, but I rather hope there aren't badges that cost Paragon Points.

Things can be misunderstood here, even on my end so no worries. It really is unfortunate they would put badges in a zone some players are just not there for it's purpose. Which is why a zone (maybe on the VIP server) was suggested. Of course, I usually bring a team of ppl for those that don't enjoy PvP to help them do things like get pillboxes in RV. That way they can get what they want out of it, and we get to bodyguard. It's quite fun and always glad to help anyone enjoy all facets of the game.

As far as your arena experience, it's that very type of player that puts a bad taste in ppls mouths in regards to PvP. It can be fun in it's own light, I do it for a change of pace or just another option in the game to utilize the toons I have made for whatever applies. Might I inquire as to which server you mainly play on? Just curious

Actually, it's easier to say which servers I don't play on. I have at lease one toon on each of the English-language serves save for Pinnacle and Protector.

I agree with you, those types of players, both in arena and PvP areas, can leave a bad taste in one's mouth for PvP. I think one of the worst was when I was in RV trying to do a few things, and I had one villian toon actually camping at the mouth of the hero's entrance to the zone. He seemed to relish being a turd that night.

That's not to say I hate RV, as I've had fun with a full team once, taking care of all the signature villians for fun and badges.

And nowadays, when I go looking for badges in the PvP zones, I usually in early in the morning, when no one else should be around, and usually at the maximum level or more.

While this is a fact, they, the devs at the time, did in fact over-balanced the PvP aspects of the game when i13 came around. Balance is good, but forcing people into a cookie-cutter mold is wrong. Instead of focusing on the greater potential and possible marketing point for this game by making PvP into a stronger class base PvP style, I feel that they took the lazy way out so they won't have to touch it again. Just like they did with the Super Group Bases. The persistent silence, changing of the topic, and the constant "we are working on it; ask later" statements we get about either subject is reaffirming that they do not want to touch either of them again in our eyes.

Wasn't PvP and Super Group Base building a selling point for City of Villains at one point of time... time to dig up those old developer videos from 2005...

What really hurt is how constantly we are told that they, the devs themselves, listen to us and yet they ignored us when we cried on how much worse it was going to be back in the days of testing this issue. Many people had faith that they would change, revoke the new PvP system, or even listen to our suggestions when it all ended up falling upon deaf ears. Personally I don't blame people for leaving this game after such actions, and with 2.5 years later, people are still trying to revive the PvP community with little avail. Trust is easily broken; harder to earn back.

We all know blaster does not equal a tanker, a defender does not equal a controller, etc. but they forced it anyways. We all know that Travel Suppression is one of the most aggravating aspects of the game, even worse for PvP, but they had to add it in as "training wheels". Old School PvP was more rewarding to team up and fight, now it is pointless and best to solo in a PvP zone.

I will applaud the efforts of all the past and present CoH Community Representatives for trying to maintain a PvP community and partake in their events. The fact is: PvP lost it's fun back on December 2, 2008. I, personally, will now avoid those PvP zones unless I am to require those notorious temp powers for a odd mission. Arenas are not that bad since we can take off those "training wheels" and get those matches as close to the old school PvP as we can, but it does not carry the same excitement one can get from a PvP zone from back then.

While there have been many great suggestion in the past, and present, on how to improve PvP, I seriously doubt any of them will be put to use after i13 was implemented. Yes, i13 has shaken my faith on what these devs will ever do to PvP in this game, now and the future. To make change is to admit your past mistakes. So far all I hear is denial of that mistake, and the ever so lonesome silence in hope we will forget about it.

Actually, let me extend that mocking bitter laughter to "anything that's not Incarnate content".
