What is [Bruising]?
Bruising is attached to your tier one attack. If the attack hits, the enemy will be affected by a -20% resistance debuff. It does not stack with itself. It does not stack with other tankers. It will stack with any other source of -resistance. The -20% ignores the purple patch, but does not bypass enemy resistance.

It also only lasts for 10 seconds. So make sure to keep it going.
So only your first, starting attack (that you start at level 1 with) "Bruises?" What does it do for a tanker? What was it intended to do?
It does nothing for the tanker other than allowing him to do a little more damage on the target. Only your Teir 1 secondary set power does it. It was added in Issue 18 I believe.

It doesn't just apply to the Tanker's own attacks either, if I jab something, and then somebody else hits the guy I jabbed, their attack will do more damage too. Works on everything from minions all the way up to AV's. As long as it connects.
Short answer: if you connect with your secondary's Tier 1, then for the next 10 seconds, you (and everyone else on who hits that target) will do 20% more damage to that target.
So, yes, it does help a tank solo. Not quite as good as vigilance for a solo'er, but still helpful.
So whatever you do, when you're picking your powers, make sure you do NOT skip your secondary's Tier 1!

Well lets say your secondary is super strength. Ordinarily your haymaker does 200 points of damage. If you bruise them with jab, then hit them with haymaker, you'll see it does 240 points of damage instead.

So, in equal net amounts, -res is more helpful.
-20%res > +20%dam
So, yes, it does help a tank solo. Not quite as good as vigilance for a solo'er, but still helpful.

Expressed mathematically for an attack that does 100 base damage:
Total Vigilance damage = 100 + 100*.95 + 100*.30 = 225
Total Bruising damage = (100 + 100*.95) * 1.20 = 234

I'm liking this new side of Dechs! :P
So, Tankers get a tiny Fury Jr., sorta.

Not really, no. Basically, if you never use your Tier 1 attack, you get nothing from it. If you use your tier one attack every ten seconds, at least, then you'll do 20% more damage to that target. But if you change targets, you need to apply the effect again.

But, other than all of the differences, mentioned and otherwise, it's exactly like fury.
So whatever you do, when you're picking your powers, make sure you do NOT skip your secondary's Tier 1!

Actually, it is better than vigilance. Vigilance (while solo) grants +30% bonus damage, which only increases base damage of attacks. Bruising is -20% resist, which adds 20% to your total damage. Thanks to enhancements, bruising essentially does more for you.
Expressed mathematically for an attack that does 100 base damage: Total Vigilance damage = 100 + 100*.95 + 100*.30 = 225 Total Bruising damage = (100 + 100*.95) * 1.20 = 234 |
Just want to remind you that a Tanker cant skip their Tier 1 from their secondary.

It was also mentioned when Bruising was added that it helps make the non-optional first tier attacks, many of which do minor damage, more attractive.

I only leave my tier 1 on my tanks with one slot for an accuracy common IO. I tried 6 slotting jab, and found even 6 slotted it was most underwhelming. Had a full set of Mako's Bite in it too.
If I'm looking for a specific set bonus, I'll add as many as are needed to get that bonus. I try not to go more then 4 slots usually.

In doing research into Tankers I've come across this Bruising term. What is [Bruising]? Does it help Tankers solo?
