MM's to be an "unlockable" AT?

I've been seeing posts all over that indicate that come i21, MM's will be an "unlockable" AT similar to EATS and VEATS. Is this true?

Only for Free players, same as Controllers and Doms due to the pets.

Not Doms, just EATs, VEATs, Controllers and Masterminds.



Apparently if you're a long term player who allows their sub to elapse then you're likely to still have access (assuming you pick those characters as your one of two available characters)

I actually don't have an issue with this and I play a great deal on MM's.

The way I see it, these are the most unique classes we currently have ingame. So denying them to freebers is just extra incentive for them to become Premium or ViP's. The 1st time a new player see's a Warshade port overhead, or a Demon MM with his whole cadre in tow it'll make an impression. It's something they haven't seen in other games. So they'll shelve their Broadsword scrapper and purchase the flashy AT's.

Aside from that. They can be easily gimped and would result in new players getting overly frustrated (without the support of the forums) and leaving unhappy.

Restricting MM is a no brainer. MM is the most unique AT of all whether they are strong or not is out of the question. MM is unique.

The choice of Controller is interesting but I can see why.


What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.

Heh. The fact that even vets I've played with aren't familiar with bodyguard, that more nuanced, easy access pet controls are only found by creating macros/binds, and that they require a very different learning curve than other archetypes make holding this back from free newbies a no-brainer.

I think they are holding back masterminds because they are so awesome that F2P players will trample each other in the rush to unlock them

Ha, I'm reminded of something I saw posted on another forum when a certain other game went Free to Play. Paraphrased, the guy said "I checked it out and saw that they still didn't have an equivalent of Masterminds. %&$@ that! So I went and fired up my old CoX account instead. Yes, the result of <game name withheld> going Free to Play was me subscribing to CoX again."

As everyone has said here, they are going to unlockable by paying to people that are playing without paying. People who are still paying the amount every month,(whatever the amount is going to be after Freedom comes out) will still have everything they had before.

Was said in the ustream cast that if you let you ViP account elapse you will lose your m(&)ms until you buy that content from the in-game store or the like.
