Game Freezes repeatedly - help requested
I wish we could get some input from the tech dept. We've done plenty of research and narrowed the variables down. Should be easy for the more informed to step in and finish the job, or at least let us know their take on things
Well AMD has released the 11.6a hotfix drivers. No evidence at all it fixes anything relating to this but might be worth a try.

Tempus unum hominem manet
It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely the products of a deranged imagination.
Thanks all for sharing your trial and errors. You guys fixed mine and my friends freezes 11.2 worked for us both.
one thing that might be related is the vertical sync: enabled setting. When I turn this off, it keeps my game display from freezing up. Im using an ATI Radeon HD 5700 card.

Greetings and Salutations ... After reading though ... It seems that I am suffering from the same crashes/freezes as well.
I am running Dual AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series
Linked via Crossfire X using driver version 11.7.
The game freezes (it seems) at random intervals (I've played for hours with no problems then for no reason it seems to freeze ie. program not responding, then be fine for a hour or so, and so on and so forth).
I am at a loss as to what to do. This is a newly built computer (less than month old) and this seems to be the only game that does this.
I am hesitant to uninstall and reinstall to an older driver ... but any suggestions would be helpful.

My computer is only 4 months old, and I'm rocking the 11.2 because anything newer causes lock-up.

How do I uninstall the current driver? I'm freezing all the time (sometimes even before I can sign in) and trying to just install 11.2 is not working.

I recommend rebooting into safe mode (minimal drivers and programs load) first.
Reboot manually (don't allow the program to reboot for you). When it comes up with "New Hardware found" cancel/skip it.
You may want to run a registry/driver cleaner app too (though most of the time this isn't necessary).
At this point, install the "new" drivers.
Thanks! I'll give it a try

I...
This issue has been bugging the hell out of me for the past week or so, and just turning off vsync solved it.
I'm currently torn between pleased the issue is resolved so simply, and righteously annoyed that one little setting was making my game damn near unplayable.
Thanks muchly, Skawpya.
I would also like to confirm that turning off Vertical Sync fixed the crashing for me as well...
I just wanted to add my experience. I had been playing fine on 11.2 and upgraded to 11.6 because Dragon Age 2 asked me to and that was when the freezing and crashing started in CoH.
Edit: I tried the Hotfix mentioned above (thank you for the head's up). Unfortunately it made things worse. My PC actually froze to the point where I had to reset when logging into a character. Did a system restore. Guess I will wait until either ATI or CoH get their act together.
