Can't Run Two Instances?

I used to be able to run CoH twice and dual box on my alt account, but now that I have downloaded the NcSoft launcher when I try to run the second City of Heroes the NCsoft Launcher opens and the first instance of the game pops back up on the screen instead of a new one opening up.

How do I get past this so I can dual box again?

what are the requirements for running multiple instances?

Small piece of additional advice: you may want to add "-maxinactivefps 1" (or some other low number) as a modifier to the game link to save your video card from melting down while attempting to render the game twice. You should be able to find a place to enter it by right-clicking the game from the launcher, if memory serves.

Yup, right-click then Properties and put it in the Extra Command Line Parameters section.

A more powerful CPU and more RAM that running one. I used to run 2 instances on a Core2 Duo with 2GB of RAM. Sluggish, but it worked. Four GB should take care of the sluggishness.

If you're running two instances in windowed mode, and have them side by side, the card is only rendering as much screen real estate as one instance at full size so it shouldn't be working any harder. Yes? No? Am I completely off-base in this belief?

No.

You can add '-maxinactivefps 5' or some other small value (like 2) to your "Extra Command Line Parameters" (right click on the game in the Launcher and select 'Properties' and add without the quotes) to reduce the CPU/GPU usage of the instance (or instances) which does not have focus.

and note the "inacitve" - this can help even if you don't run multiple instances but if you do alt-tab

Hmm in terms of computer power I should have it pretty good then I have an i920 and 6GBs am I correct in believing all the work would have to be done one gfx card(ignoring SLI/CrFi)

Yes, but the GFX card can be the most important part of the combo. For instance I can stress my processor and push my RAM WAY too high to load a 2nd instance, but the 2nd instance's login screen will come up with graphicerrors/dim because the card is going insane trying to deal with it.

Even with the maxinactive tag, trying to run two instances on my main computer kills the game pretty fast. I can make it through one mission with lots of lag, then it's ready to crash. ^_^

Which is too bad because the game runs great with only 1 instance (other than crashing after an hour or so). When I dual box I have to use my laptop, which can barely run the game anymore.

Specs:
Athlon 64 x2 4000 - 4Gb Ram - ATI 5700 (512Mb) (IIRC) - 1920x1080 & 1280x1024 (monitors).

I happily run two clients (one to each monitor) at performance settings. Though dual boxing is much easier if I run 2 PCs as I can dual box rather than have 2 clients running at once (which isn't the same thing at all).
