I think barrier is the go to one if you are having trouble choosing. Consider rebirth if you have some end issues maybe.
Barrier is redundant if you have pets soft-capped. I'd go with something more akin to Ageless or Rebirth (Max HP is nice, but the regen stacks wonderfully with Triage Beacon).
I went for the radial rebirth on my Bots/Traps, it seems to work well.
Many of my alts are taking Rebirth. No problems at all.

1) Are you incarnate softcapped? Thats about 60 def. Thats going to be the way it is for probably all the new content as well. I think the devs felt that getting to 45 def and calling it quits was too easy.
2) It still adds plenty of resists, pets always have very average sort of resists. Help keep the one-hit deaths from happening as much. I don't recall what the mininum +RES on T4 barrier is off hand, but it would stack nicely with combinations like necro or thugs that can benefit from two +RES procs.
I think barrier is pretty much pure awesome. Sure -- if you have a very strong defensive build you have other options. But I can't imagine barrier ever being anything less than totally awesome. I think a person could "go wrong" with a possibly less useful destiny choice, but I don't think anyone could go wrong with barrier ever.
Imo barrier is a no brainer for MMs even if your softcapped without it. The layered protection makes it so that def debuffs don't matter and attacks that can, will and do hit you and your pets aren't a big deal
T4 Barrier at its weakest is +5% Def +5% Res
I know On my Thug/Pain Im taking barrier.
Bot/traps... that is a big more of a tough call. You really can't go wrong with ether i would say (Rebirth or Barrier). The Biggest plus prehaps to Rebirth is it gives you a big heal. Something Bot/traps doesn't have. Were as my Thug/Pain has heals but needs more Def/Res.

I just broke down a Notice of the Well. I now have 40 threads. What to do what to do? Those PBAoE buffs work for pets, I assume? As I have a Bots/Traps, built heavily towards defense, which would you pick? I'm leaning towards Barrier (assuming that's not redundant) or Rebirth.
