Necro/Storm build, any glaring problems?

So I recently rolled up a Necro/Storm MM and this is the build I came up with. I'm going with a similar strategy to my Bots/Traps which is a high HP tankermind. I'm not sold on how that strategy will work here, but so far (level 25) the Zombies and Knights seem to be less resilient than my bots. I don't know how that will change once they start siphoning life.

I fully intend on maximizing Tornado's damage by using the Electric Fences and my Lich's immobilize (he has one, doesn't he?). I know the build is pretty endurance intensive, but I don't intend to run Hurricane or Snow Storm full time. Maybe I'll find that the Charged Armor isn't necessary. Like I said, most of this is preliminary with an eye to how this will work in theory.

Can't see any issues at all really, that's a nice build. Good mix of set bonuses and frankenslotting (I always approve of decent frankenslotting in builds). You've got Soul Extraction slotted up properly which I also approve of (it's a far better pet than Zombies so it's well worth slotting up and having one out as often as you can).

Personally I'd dump Provoke for Hasten but that's a minor thing and I can understand why you wouldn't want Hastens horrible GFX

You might need Cardiac instead of Musculature to deal with End Costs, although if you get all of those Uniques you might be alright. The nice thing about Cardiac is that it's the most useful Tier 1 Alpha as it affects nearly everything and it's rare that you'd have powers at the ED cap, so it's very quick to earn. So if you do find yourself needing it occasionally you can hot-switch it in.

Thank you kindly. When I make a build, I figure out what my goals are, grab those set bonuses, and round out my enhancement values any way I can.

I don't know if Soul Extraction is slotted as well as I'd like, but I really wanted to get the pet uniques in the build. It's got damage and enough accuracy, but it's really light on recharge. If things go as planned, I won't need it that often, but still... meh.

Grave Knights already had two procs in them, as they'll be my primary source of damage. The Lich only has one proc, but he needs all the rest of his slots. I managed to get all the enhancement I wanted in Tornado in five slots, so I threw the fourth pet unique there and crammed the rest into Soul Extraction.

I actually don't avoid hasten because of the glowing fists. In this build, much like my bots/traps, it really only shaves a few seconds off of a few powers that I want to come up faster. It's not like my warshade where I need every bit to keep Eclipse going. Moreover, the build is already kind of strained for endurance.

Regardless, I've thought about dumping Provoke, though I'm not sure for what. This build should have an easier time holding aggro than my bots/traps, so he may not need Provoke.

Getting the unique +recovery IOs isn't a problem, I've got merits and Villain merits coming out of my ears. I'm just not sure that'll be enough. Cardiac would be great, but I won't get much out of the secondary effects. Musculature is fighting the ED cap on everything it gives me, but it will give me a little more tohit debuff. Not sure how much that's worth, if anything. I'll certainly try the Cardiac first, if only for the T1 to make getting T3 of anything much easier.

Swapping the Soulbounds from Tornado into Soul Extraction looks like it shaves off another ~30 seconds from SE. Then just move the Exp. Reinforment unique to tornado and fill in the rest of the set to keep the +rech bonus.

Then you could move two more pet uniques into tornado and get a couple more expedients into SE to ED cap its damage and recharge. Tornado looks to only lose about 2 seconds on recharge and has a higher end cost. SE, on the other hand, drops to 240 seconds compared to the original 312 seconds. That's 70 seconds total off of SE's recharge.

Since you wern't going for any set bonus in Charged Armor and wanted 3x resist end slotted, you may want to look at slotting 3x Ribosome Exposures in there which would give you a little better percentages then the IOs.

D'oh. I should have caught that one. Thanks.

Last I remember, those were hard to come by, though. The Acc/mez, dmg/mez and end/mez I use didn't seem to cost as much.

Since you asked, the Lich does have an immob, but it doesn't have -KB in it: you'll have to rely solely on Electrifying Fences.

Speaking from experience of a /storm MM, I think you'll find yourself sucking wind more frequently than you anticipate in the higher levels, depending on how you play... I always throw Thundercloud out as soon as it's up, but in your build it's gonna drain 33 of your blue bar every 40s. If you factor that into your current net end gain, you'll only come out to a net gain of 0.7 end/sec... and that's without running Hurricane or Snow Storm: it's just you standing w/ toggles shooting LSs out!

Now for the hard part... making constructive suggestions for improvement that go beyond "Just take Cardiac!" (though that is my twitch response... the issue is that your build is clearly damage/rech, whereas mine is ranged def/recovery). Replace your Dam/Rechs with Dam/Ends in LS, Replace Res/Ends with Ribosomes in Charged Armor: you gain 8 seconds on LS, but reduce the end cost to 0.48 end/sec over the cast cycle (about half of what it was).

If you *really* want to keep the same recharge as before, either switch Provoke for Hasten, or put a FF: +Rech in the second slot of Gale, and spam it alongside Electric Fences.

Thanks for this clarification.

Holy wow I hadn't even noticed that! That's huge. Like, unenhanced Dark Regeneration huge. And here I was worried about toggles. I really should know better than to miss something like this, thanks.

That sounds like it's just what I'm going to have to do, which isn't really a problem. 8 seconds in relation to 40 is a fair amount, but it's already not an "every spawn" kind of power, so I'll just deal with that.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I know this is an ancient thread, but since were talking Necro... I'm graverobbing.

Anyone thought about going soul route and doing the stunbot thing? Thunderclap plus OG sounds mighty tempting.

Ill way in too even tho its a old post.

the Defense aura and Resist aura in your Soul Extractions i don't agree with since its not a permanent pet your pets are only going to get those buffs while soul extraction is up.

I find that avoiding aggro to yourself helps a lot. Provoke and Electric fences i think will get yourself killed more often then good. Hasten and Stealth would be what i would do instead.

Ive seen a video of a Thugs/Storm MM and he was amazing soloing 1/8 or 0/8 i forget which one but he took Thunder Clap which seems to work really well as a MM.

That would be it for my input

The buffs from the defense and resist aura's in soul extraction are always up regardless if the pet is out I think.

huh. Also i forgot that its the only recharge intensive pet so 2 of them have to go in it.

I know. I hate calling tornado a pet tho hehe. I meant actual Pet not an attack power. :P
