Critique my Inv/SS build

My goals on this build were to soft cap S/L/E/N and squeeze out as much +regen as possible. The powers and slots are not chosen in the correct order. I do not have the miracle unique and tough is not slotted because even on live with my ancient SO/HO build endurance and S/L damage is not a big issue. Most of the time I will probably run with tough/weave off and turn them on for more difficult encounters. Any advice I can get before I go all out and implement this build would be great.

First of all, you have way too much S/L defense. Remember, with Invinc you'll have more defense anytime you're fighting more than one foe. I wouldn't go above 47-48% defense with one in range of Invinc.

It really makes no sense to 4 slot RPD and leave Tough with the base slot. Tough has a much higher base value and requires endurance to run, which RPD does not. I'd put the RAs in Tough and the Steadfast +Def in RPD. A second common IO in RPD will get you to the S/L resistance cap. In your final build, I would delay RPD to the 20s or 30s and ResEn and ResEl to the 30s or 40s, which would allow you to take your attacks much sooner.

TI and UY are poorly slotted; underslotted for resistance and overslotted for end reduction. Drop the Endurance IO and use a Res/Rchg instead.

Try to find another slot for Jab, it's really worth slotting now with Bruising, and 4 slotted with KCs it's underslotted for Accuracy and Damage. If you can't afford two slots, a Mako's Add/Dam/End/Rchg would work well.

Dull Pain is very underslotted, you want to get as close to 95% Heal and Recharge enhancement as possible. I prefer Doctored Wounds for DP, but if you want to keep the Numina's for the regen bonus, add a couple of slots of Doctored Wounds to fully slot it.

You don't need the KC set in KoB for S/L defense, and as is it's underslotted for damage. I'd drop the KC set and use something like Crushing Impact instead, which will save you a lot of influence as well.

I'm not a fan of Gaussian's for a typed defense build, the defense bonuses are pretty small for the amount of slots it takes. I'd pull those slots if you need them elsewhere.

Similarly, Health is way overslotted and the E/NE bonus is small for the number of slots needed to get it.

The slots in Brawl and Boxing are rather baffling. Why don't you use two of those slots in an attack you'll actually use, like Jab?

Weave is very underslotted. Free up a slot and add a LotG Defense.

Here's what I would do with your build; this version has less S/L defense (though still soft-capped) and a little less regen, but your attacks and Dull Pain are fully slotted. It also has two fewer KC sets, so it'll be considerably less expensive.

EDIT: Previous build was over the rule of 5 on 10% regen bonuses, now fixed. It's still over on one of the HP bonuses, but I left it because the other accompanying set bonuses are desirable.

I couldn't give a rats butt about squeezing each and every .9 of a hitpoint per sec in regen on my Invuln because to me it matters diddly squat. +HP works with resistances better and means more +regen anyway so +hp is fine. What would concern me on both builds is that conserve energy doesn't recharge quick enough. It's of value to me to have atleast a 2.5eps gap between end rec and toggle end use given that the attacks are well end reduced and when not possible conserve energy needs to be up quicker.

Health way overslotted.
Brawl and Boxing overslotted. Stick an common Acc IO in there and call it done.
With the amount of defense you have in S/L/E/N drop the Gaussians and just go for 3x Common Recharge IOs.
Use the extra slots to fill out your attacks.
Don't futz with holds in KO Blow. Acc/Damage/End/Rech.
Honestly, don't fart with the +Recharge IO. Last I heard it wasn't working properly anyhow. Look to get more EndMod in there.
Slot Jab better. Remember, while it's damage sucks, its a fast-charging attack that carries a debuff with it. You want it to pretty much ALWAYS hit.

My regen is more than enough specially when you're not getting hit much

Also note, this is not my current build, I have a better build, but I figured I wouldn't post it because it's not for everyone, my build consist of PvP recipes and Purples with better defense and better regen 391 to be exact.

Plus the end recovery covers the Rage drop very well, so I love it

Spiritual? If I switch to spiritual, that build I posted goes up from 384 to 399. Without spiritual, but adding three purple IOs, I can get up to 392.

This is my current Inv/SS build. I'm softcapped to S/L/E/N/F/C, without the PVP IO. Fully slotted attacks, good recharge, regen & recovery. The first thing you'll noticed is that Dull Pain and Conserve Power are both only 1 slotted. This is because I'm Alpha slotted with Cardiac Core, and my Destiny power is Rebirth: +Regen, which I use as my main heal. By making those choices I was able to place slots elsewhere. I have a few different power choices than you do, but perhaps you could use this for some ideas.

Thank you for the replies and example builds they gave me a lot of insight.

But a few questions, you are all saying that you do not care about regen or anything else and that only softcapping the defense matters? I am asking because there are times when I have way over 45% with inspirations and still get hit and I feel like if I had more regen I could survive through what kills me.

I see that a couple of the builds have not taken Hasten, I thought it was basically given to take hasten, wondering why you have skipped it.

Do you run out of endurance quickly with Tough/Weave on all the time? More then doubling my current endurance use on live seems like I might be winded in no time.

Regen is nice to have, and if I have the opportunity to get regen bonuses, I take it, but IMO it's not nearly as useful as defense, HP and recharge for keeping you alive.

The problem is that if you're taking enough damage all at once, even with the super-high regen levels that WP can reach you won't regen fast enough to keep you alive--that's why WP is considered to be not as good as Invul at taking Alphas.

And in a situation where you're taking damage through soft-capped defense, having a lot of HPs and for Invul, a lot of recharge to get DP up faster is much more likely to save you than regen.

Might be personal preference--some don't like the look of Hasten--or that they need room for another power pool. *I* certainly nearly always take it, and consider it to be much more useful than, say, Stealth or Maneuvers for Invul.

You need to slot them for endurance reduction certainly, and with sets it's easy to reach 45% end reduction without much effort. But keep in mind that attacks are a far bigger user of endurance than toggles, and their end cost doesn't show up in the end use stats in Mid's. If you have sufficient end reduction in your toggles and especially your attacks, you should be okay except perhaps in situations like AV fights where you have to attack non-stop for a long period of time.

No, regen is good don't get me wrong. But when you are running soft cap defense on your tank, regen isn't that important. It is, but it's not going to make your tank useless. So it's a preference. I suggest get as much regen out of the build you can, but I wouldn't sacrifice other things to get it.

I'd never take Hasten with a Inv / SS. With the double crash from both Rage and Hasten, you can find your elf in trouble if you don't pay attention to your endurance.

I normally try to build most of my characters close to 70% recharge, that to me is Hasten But with the Inv / SS 45-60 is more than enough to hold a very steady attack chain with the occasional taunt.

I took conserve power as a throw away power, but I do find myself using it in the Lambda Trial due to the Seers drain psyche, it helps a great deal, so it wasn't a complete throw away power. But no, with not having Hasten I have "Zero" endurance problems with my tank build.

Many people like to settle for soft capped defense to just S/L but I would recommend to reach soft capped defense to all Type damage, you will find it much more survivable. S/L covers a lot of damage in the game, but there is also a lot of Elements and Energies in the game as well that don't deal S/L and you will find yourself getting hit a lot more if you're not at soft capped to those types of damage.
