This seems like a bad idea...
if the sleep deals damage than reactive will have a chance to trigger.
if reactive triggers the mob is wide awake.
This is exactly what happens. I respecced out of Siren's Song and into Shockwave because of it.
On the plus side, after finishing my IO build and getting T4 on 5/5 Incarnate powers, my Sonic/Sonic beats so much face I don't need it!
I love Reactive Interface. I just adore it. I like setting things on fire, and have this inhibition in real life about you know, setting things on fire, so when I saw that I could add extra damage to my attacks with FIRE I loved the idea. Fire.
In all seriousness, however, the point of this is the following; do damaging sleep attacks set people on fire? How is that productive? "I'll just put you to sleep." "I'm dreaming... of fire OH GOD FIRE I AM ACTUALLY ON FIRE AHHH DIE!" "Well, crap." I'm completely willing to throw my hands up in the air and say Siren's Song is now a sub-par AOE cone, but uh... well, I guess those are some pretty hot dreams they'll be having. |
If you want the extra DoT from Reactive, you'll just have to accept that your sleep powers won't work anymore.
I want Siren's song to keep working, so my Sonic/Devices blaster will be getting something other than Reactive. Maybe the -to-hit one would be useful, since I'm not softcapped to ranged yet.
It's all about choices, and it isn't like they added a DoT to every power against your will. You chose to add it, so if your sleeps don't work anymore you only have yourself to blame for it.

I rarely take sleeps. However, would possibly consider taking them to aoe spam the reactive just for the -res stackability. Would still give you at least as much mitigation as an aoe knockdown.
That said, If you like the sleeps because they sleep stuff, then would probably pair it with something else.
Eh, by the time I get Reactive, there'll be a big question if I even need to use sleeps. By that time I might just make it a nuke with a 25% chance for sleep. That would work. It looks like it does more damage than shockwave does.
Not everything about Incarnates is a win/win. If you want to retain the usefulness of any sleep powers that deal damage, pick a different Interface.

This. It's always been the case in this game that certain power combos won't synergize well and others will (Elec/Storm controllers have a number of issues with the powers combining).
Reactive is also going to cause such issues with some of your powers. Since you can switch out Incarnate powers and also have 3 builds to pick from you at least have some leeway in terms of being able to respec yourself to certain situations.
A long time ago, I once posited that Sonic's AoE potential was much higher than most people gave it credit for. Howl and Shockwave do low damage, but recharge very fast. With as much +recharge as we can now get, this is not as big of an advantage as it once was, but it can still be leveraged. With a Reactive proc, Sonic is even more capable and Sonic blast boosts the damage of the Reactive proc quite nicely.
I expect some very good (Edit: AoE) damaging Sonic blast builds to emerge very soon.
Why Blasters? Empathy Sucks.
So, you want to be Mental?
What the hell? Let's buff defenders.
Tactics are for those who do not have a big enough hammer. Wisdom is knowing how big your hammer is.

It does make the sleep useless, but... honestly, the way sleeps go in this game, it's not really making it more useless than it was to start with.

Does the -res version of reactive wake people up? Because I can see having the version that only does -res and no DOT over most of the other options.

I can be found, outside of paragon city here.
Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.
